Are you certain this hardware can run the current version of Sky at all? Plenty of people have issues even on Windows. The CPU has to be recent enough apparently, being powerful doesn't appear to help. That's the "community theory" anyway.

And as far as Linux is concerned, I've seen reports from people happily playing on a Steam Deck without any mention of meddling with the settings. So… it should "just work", assuming nothing else is in the way?

Well… maybe not, we've recently had another report from Windows with an 8350: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2325290/discussions/0/4333105405780675870/?ctp=2#c4333105586037100549

Missing the point.

The aforementioned "community theory" is that the game requires a CPU with an AVX2 instruction set. FX 8350 doesn't have it.

Now, I mention this is a "community theory", meaning there's no definite official confirmation for it. However:
  • There's a metric ton of reports from Windows players with CPUs without AVX2 (mostly 2nd-3rd gen Intel Cores, a few older Xeons, a bunch of older AMDs) where the game does not start at all
  • AVX2 was required back during PC beta (confusingly, with a minimum requirement for a CPU being FX 8310 or better, which does not have AVX2)
  • In the Workshop here you can find a guide for using Intel SDE to emulate newer instruction sets like AVX2 and you can see in the comments it does make the game work specifically on older CPUs, albeit sometimes unplayably slowly (the downside of emulation)

So there's a bit of a split here where some will tell you to upgrade, some will tell you to demand AVX2 requirement be patched out or at least officially confirmed.

I really should create a dedicated thread about this before another confrontation on the subject begins here too 😁

Welcome to the club, it's quite big by now. 😔
There are a few precedents with other games where such a requrement was patched out (I only remember Uncharted out of those), the same thing might happen here.

you need an i5 cpu at least even if it's quad core. even tf2 requires this.

I suggest you get better informed about CPU naming schemes before offering this kind of advice. Because an i7-3770K doesn't work. Go figure.
