Need to progress to send gifts.

Friend cant send gofts to me since it says It needs progress.

What progress they talkin about? Would be noce of they were a bit more specific

The unlock should be both sides, what error is he facing? Some regions might have shop problem unless they set the in-game language to English.

And just to be sure, what error is he getting? And what type of gifts are you gifting?

So far its just hearts
We are from the same region.
It just says need to progress to be able to send gifts.
Can’t look at it right now. But will try to give more info when I can look at it.

There could be a lock on that and needed certain progress to unlock. Tell your friend to try at least finished the Forest part and reach the Valley then try again to see if the restriction is lifted...

I think the only "progress" requirement for this is having "high five" unlocked in your friendship tree. And that's technically "friendship progress" and what the error hints at (if badly).

For every pair of friends there is one and the same friendship tree on both ends, so there is no such thing as "being unlocked on both ends", it cannot be unlocked on just one.

• seen this message myself with other game veterans with whom I don't have high five unlocked, but dead certain we have both been to Eden
  
• never heard of this requirement with regard to sending hearts nor have I been able to find another source that would confirm it
  
• not forgotten how you were trying to convince me that Steam Early Access isn't meant for unfinished games and made up a good number of other bold claims before

High Five is the requirement to unlock the give heart icon. But for new players they won't be able to gift hearts right away even if they unlocked it. There's been weird "restriction" added to heart gifting since 0.15.5[thatgamecompany.helpshift.com], like both players must spent time on the same server for over 30 minutes to unlock heart sending back then... and reaching Valley has been the requirement since 2021... these "restrictions and measurements" are never listed in the wiki or openly confirmed by the devs due to what's stated in that update.

I mean some people I have just friended and bot progressed further with, I can send hearts too. So I don’t know about the high five one.

You do not only need the high five, need to get to the Valley of triumph aswell.

Since as soon as we finished the hidden forest, My friend was able to send gifts.

I'm a new player so definitely not any authority, but I agreed with them because it lined up with my own experience. I did some googling and it seems like this has been known about for a while now.
