Sky with a virus?
Today, Sky updated, and when it did, my antivirus (ESET) detected that "Sky.exe" has "Win64/Packed.Themida.L." As a result, it didn't let me download it and canceled the download. I restored "Sky.exe" from quarantine, sent it to VirusTotal, and found that 6 antivirus programs detected this:

Bkav Pro: W64.AIDetectMalware
ESET-NOD32: A Variant Of Win64/Packed.Themida.L Suspicious
Gridinsoft (no cloud): Trojan.Heur!.03250023
McAfee Scanner: Ti!2DAE5B122C39
Skyhigh (SWG): BehavesLike.Win64.Generic.wc
Trapmine: Malicious.moderate.ml.score

Are these "false positives," or did they put something suspicious in today's update?

I also have the same problem with 'Packed.Themida.L' that ESET detect.

yup, doesnt work for me. Ive seen this happen with other games though so im sure its not actually a virus, just a bit annoying though
Soraky000 24 MAY 2024 a las 2:02
It also detected a virus, a specific Trojan, for now what I did for my part is uninstall the game and wait for another update or for something to be said about it

I'm having the same problems too! It's very strange

Hope it is fixed soon, another game update has also caused the game to be detected as a virus, no idea what the devs are adding for it to do this

I don't wanna miss out on my candle runs for season or candles in general for the upcoming event

I am having the same issue :(

If you have Sky on Mobile, you can play there.
luuxiyuuki 24 MAY 2024 a las 4:54
I'm going to assume it's an issue on pc for sky only, because other platforms seem to be just fine. hopefully the devs respond soon.

Key difference is that ESET is not made by Bethesda and has not ruined it's reputation.
Meh. As far as I'm concerned, most AV software stopped being relevant with the introduction of Microsoft Security Essentials back in Windows 7 days. Since Windows 10 it now comes preinstalled as Windows Defender. And it's pretty competent at discerning threats while not complaining about known reputable software without good reason.

Practically all commercial AV vendors, including ESET, already have a horrible reputation with developers because of overreactions on part of their end-user security solutions. The "solution" AV vendors suggest is sending false positives to their teams so they can make exceptions. This may work in a corporate environment, where software suites aren't especially diverse, so vendors can keep up with them; but for private use they're all hilariously bad.

Apparently according to Discord comments there are others having the same issue on the mobile platforms (Iphone, etc.)

I have tha game on IOS, Steam and Switch and I don't find any troubles in any of these devices.

IOS version have been updated today and I've played a bit this morning, no issues.
My Pc doesn't detect anything (Windows defender and malwarebytes used), and honestly, Windows Defender is more than enought for any home/gaming pc. If you want to scan for something suspicious you can run free malwarebytes and enable rootkit detection.

Switch version, also okay, but I don't really know if it's fully updated.

So I think its just a false positive

Here on behalf of a non english speaker friend that is having the same issue. According to him, his Antivirus (McAfee, I think?) detected few Sky files as malicious and tried to force them into quarantine. Steam also won't update/reinstall it, seems like it does try but it stops at 99% saying that some of the downloaded files are missing.
I'm also assuming it's a false positive, I played a bit yesterday post update and then today, no issue at all on my end. My antivirus (Kaspersky) didn't notice anything suspicious.
Still, I hope this gets sorted out soon.

I do not know what to think. According to the VirusTotal website, it now has 7 detections. "malicious", "Trojan", "Malware". On Discord they keep saying that it is a False positive. Even if it were, not all PC users know how to configure the antivirus so that it does not detect such a thing. The developers would have to provide a solution.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my McAfee, but there is no option to allow it. I've tried to go through the windows firewall and allow it - because McAfee was saying something along the lines of that, but it didn't work. Any suggestions?

I turned off my anti virus and verified the files integrity
Downloaded like 14mb and the game worked again.
I don't know if thats ok but oh well

Hello! I just pinned a new post on this topic, but wanted to come to this thread and share the message here as well:

We've received reports that some PC players are having issues with their antivirus blocking the most recent Sky update due to a software protection feature we use. The team is working to prevent this from happening in future updates. In the meantime, players should be able to create an exclusion for Sky in their antivirus dashboard in order to download the update and play.
We apologize for the inconvenience! Thank you for reporting the issue to us.

Specific instructions will vary depending on which antivirus you use, but you can look up how to create an exclusion for sky.exe on your specific antivirus.

Again, thank you so much for mentioning this issue and we're sorry for the concern that our software protection inadvertently caused!
