Sky: Children of the Light

Sky: Children of the Light

Old seasons feel like a slap to the face
I just completed season of dreams, that nice ice skating one. I came in to the game on the PC not knowing about it, so I didn't get to experience it the first time.

I see that really cool costume the main NPC gets given, the birdlike mask and red and yellow cape and I tell my friend I want it.

And then I learn, like so many other things I want, it's locked away forever because of really poor FOMO based game design choices, where just because I didn't know the game existed, I now miss out on something nice.

It genuinely has soured every experience I've had in this game where I learn there's another FOMO bit of content I really want but can't have because the devs decided to lock it away for no good reason. All because I had the gall to not know the game existed. It feels like the game is actively flaunting the item, and taunting me for not being able to have it.

Is there any chance they'll release these items again?

In all fairness in regards to the Season Pass grind if you own it, it's not that bad. You really just need to login, get your daily candle, light the seasonal candles, finish the quests, and turn them in. Maybe like an hour, hour and a half at most to get all six seasonal candles each day.

Yes, it's bad. An hour each day of grind, and you can skip like 10 days in the whole season or you won't be able to finish it. Compare it to other games that have season passes which have weekly quests with big payouts, those don't expire during the season so you can recover them, plus season-wide quests, and are balanced around not requiring you to play every single day of the week. They're a stimulus to come back to play, but at your own pace.

Not only I DON'T HAVE that time as an adult, but I'm not even willing to grind like a MEANINGLESS JOB just for the cosmetic rewards I want. I can play actually fun games in my free time or spend it in other activities.

And if you join 2 weeks late in the season, you already know in advance you are unable to finish it.

So, the only winning move is to not play. Trying to keep up in the past only led me to burn out and I was NOT having fun, and I wouldn't be able to join my friends in other games as I had to do those tasks. Are you having fun revisiting the same places every day to lit the same candles and complete the same tasks, and spend a whole hour on it? Does it accomplish anything?

I wholeheartedly agree on the overpriced IAPs, though. Like I'm more than willing to shell out money because I enjoy Sky so much, but even I can see how outrageous some of the prices are. They really do need to try making at least one of the UGs not SP exclusive, however.

And I don't think they'll ever change that. I feel a bit stupid now that I spent 10€ for rainbow headphones, despite knowing full well in my head that it was not a fair price.

IAPs and the merch that's more expensive than a Thun shop are purposefully a "status" and a way to cash in on the hardcore fans.
for me its usually 4-10 mins a day for seasonal stuff. The dailies end up repeating to the point you'll instantly know whats where. But, I guess it's harder if you're just casually into the game. The season pass I wouldn't recommend for all players. Theres been a lot of days I didn't sign in and so I almost missed the Ultimate Gifts
100% agree. Well stated.
Especially with things like Aurora... wings gone from obtainability- yet active quest that requires wings to finish still in game and presence in the arena ( find someone that owns them is not a proper solution… What if you don't have any friends that have it or people who have stopped playing?) Why does she continue to get free advertising in the game, yet license of collaboration won't let items be sold again, or will they?

….and I want that manta projector too! (que take my money meme)

For the longest time in Sky, TGC has been on this exclusivity bandwagon. Which is fine as long as players can reasonably access the cosmetics. Which is basically the main point of progress in the game.

There was a time in 2020 where emotes were locked behind travelling spirits. But then they made it easier (more like reasonable) for players to unlock them.

For most cosmetics. TGC made it possible via randomised travelling spirits (which sadly leaves players waiting and saving up for months to hopefully get the items they want, if they can afford it).
But ultimate rewards are currently still unobtainable to players who have not spent money on passes during the seasons.

Sky is a great game. But it is the worst game to give to Completionists.
Primarily because many of its cosmetics are unobtainable to those who joined after the fact.
