Still I would love it if the developers just randomly updated the game one day with a new item and if you put said item in the right spot you find something truely scary and unexpected.
For me, that sort of stuff is more creapy than seeing a monster in Amnesia! haha
The screenshots are taken by me in 3840 x 2400 resolution.
The first sound is a female sigh. It might just come from your character, though. (Filename is "Sigh Female Exhale.ogg")
The second sound is a "Hey, you!". I can't really explain this, but i'm sure there is a logical explanation. (Filename is "WhisperHeyYou.ogg")
The third sound can only be heard in the basement, it sounds like someone is moving around upstairs? The floor in the basement is concrete, so it has to be from upstairs. (Filename is "Floor creaks wood board squeak basement perspective_BLASTWAVEFX_24569.ogg")
The fourth sound is really interesting, you can clearly hear someone dragging or pulling some kind of wooden furniture around. (Filename is (desk_Drag.ogg)

For the first hour I was convinced something was going to jump scare me (I was turning on every light, closing doors behind me, circle strafing around corners) and the audio definitely had me on edge. I was convinced the game was going to get gory and I'm really glad it didn't.
All that said, I calmed down a lot once I read the Housing Insurance note (across from the Dad's desk) as it mentions that the house is built oddly and can often sound like breathing, creaking etc.
I've been playing Bioshock Infinite's DLC (great!) and when you start you have virtually nothing and it's extra creepy because you're defenceless but not as tense as what I was feeling in Gone Home in the beginning.
With Bioshock I knew there would be 'bad guys' and eventually a way to beat the 'bad guys/monsters'. Exploring that house in Gone Home all I could think was 1) I'm going to scream my head off if something jumps out of no where and 2) I'm just going to have to run.
I loved the fact that GH didn't provide a clear answer and not knowing whether or not it was a horror game was a really different and scary feeling.
What's great about the game is that beyond the obvious story about her sister, there's loads of clues about why her father is the way he's been. Not everyone digs deep enough or makes sense of it. The great thing is that it's gently-enough alluded to but not really clearly stated. In most games some person would remind you to go back and look at that important clue to the B plot/side quest.
!!
I know the room. It's the one with the delivery note, correct? I would love to see them release DLC for this game where additional secret passages where added/opened. Perhaps even open the door and go to the gorge to find Mom and Dad.
