The Attic *SPOILER WARNING*
Was anyone else freaked out about what they would possibly find up there? Initially I feared Sam had committed suicide and that I would find her corpse upstairs; but, thankfully that wasn't the case. It was a happy ending.

Yup, I think it was very well done, particularly having read a lot of YA lesbian fiction in the 90s in which Something Dreadful always does happen to the couple/one of them - all the things people have wished happened to Sam and/or Lonnie - one of them turning out not to be gay and spurning the other, suicide, etc, plus the good, old, 'corrective sexual assault' [can understand why the word I used is censored, but just for clarity...] storyline - I guess I should be grateful I've not seen anyone wishing the game took that direction. So, for me, it was almost cathartic, having grown up with the books which always started out so lovely and 'yay, girl like me gets a girl who loves her too and OH ♥♥♥♥ WHAT JUST HAPPENED' by the end. And yet, it's not a slushy happy ending - not like the parents had a change of heart and Sam & Lonnie just went off for a dirty weekend away. They've obviously got a lot of struggles ahead of them, if they genuinely stay runaways they're going to probably be homeless and such. If they come back they'll have a lot of ♥♥♥♥ hitting their respective fans. But they're together, and for now, that's good enough.

I was totally freaked out!
Somewhere around the middle of the game, still in the left part of the house, I was shure they just ran away. But later, near the end, each new note left me with an increasingly bad feeling in my stomach... I was totally expecting a double suicide under the stairs and then the corpse of poor sam in the attic. I was SOOO relived that they just ran away!

I actually missed the last letter as I rushed the attic expecting a body! Therefore the ending was really unclear (I'm sure we'll se eahc other some day).

However in hindsight it was obvious - don't tell mum & dad, all the video equipment being missing etc

I was so lucky to go into this game blind. I knew the absolute basics of this game and bought it simply because I kept hearing about it. The entire game was so tense. When I found the secret passage in the library and the lightbulb blew out I got so freaked out. I ended up not being able to play the game alone by the midpoint. I ended up playing it while my neice did her homework behind me.

It's funny that by the time I discovered the secret room under the stairs my neice noticed the game and I told her a bit about it. Then I told her "I got the key. Now I need to go to the attic" and when I showed her the attic with the red lights she started getting scared.

It was a great experience. It was tense, scary, sad, and lovely.

I have nothing against lesbians but this was a disappointment, I wanted to see Oscars ghost!

I was getting a little worried once I got past the point that I found out Lonnie was enlisting. I did have some concern that the attic was locked to hide something unpleasant, but I was mostly still thinking Sam had simply left on her own, since her initial note did imply that she ran away, not that she was dead. I was fully expecting a bittersweet ending where she ran away, lost and confused. The surprise of the happy ending really caught me off guard. Talk about relief!

I don't think it was a happy ending. My underaged sister has run off with her friend who is supposedly now AWOL. It was also implied that she stole the VCRs that her dad had got for his job.

oh yeah, the VCRs were all gone, werent they? I guess she stole them to sell cause they needed money.
