Somewhere around the middle of the game, still in the left part of the house, I was shure they just ran away. But later, near the end, each new note left me with an increasingly bad feeling in my stomach... I was totally expecting a double suicide under the stairs and then the corpse of poor sam in the attic. I was SOOO relived that they just ran away!
However in hindsight it was obvious - don't tell mum & dad, all the video equipment being missing etc
It's funny that by the time I discovered the secret room under the stairs my neice noticed the game and I told her a bit about it. Then I told her "I got the key. Now I need to go to the attic" and when I showed her the attic with the red lights she started getting scared.
It was a great experience. It was tense, scary, sad, and lovely.
