I have so many Questions. Please help!
So, gone home was definitely a different game. And I personally feel that the story took a direction at the ending that I dont particularly agree with. But thats not what Im here to discuss. I need some help getting the story all straighented out in my head, by people that maybe dug a little bit deeper than me. So I have some questions....

1. Where the Heck are the Parents!!??!?!?!??
nuff said

2. There is an optional locker, that can be opened in the basement. The combo is 1963 I believe. IGN did a spoilercast about the game, and one of the commentators suggested that the dad had been molested as a child. By his Uncle Oscar, (the man you find in the obituary report, satan worshiper, old owner of the house, etc.). He has scribbled on the wall Terrance's (the dad) different heights at various ages, up to age 12. (This is next to the locker by the way). Under age 12, it says "Thanksgiving 1963". The guy at IGN suggested by the letter in the locker, that the dad was molested around the time of the kennedy assassination, and thats why the dad is so obsessed with the assassination, possibly thinking it has a link to him being molested. Anyway, just wondering if anybody had more details on this hard to find subject.

Thanks for answering!

I don't know much about the locker in the basement, but the parents went off together on a couple's retreat. Once you're in the kitchen, you can see it marked on a calendar and I believe there's a pamphlet in the greenhouse.

Your parents are on vacation to (assumedly) fix their marriage and celebrate that your dad is writing successful books again. You can find that out by looking at the calendar in the kitchen.
Your dad was molested as a kid by the same man he inherited the house from.

Wow, I totally missed the secret locker with the molestation clues. Need to do another playthrough.

As posted in other threads, this is a very good analysis of the Oscar storyline: http://clockworkworlds.com/post/58411117679/the-transgression-you-can-do-better

" And I personally feel that the story took a direction at the ending that I dont particularly agree with"

I'm not sure how you can agree or disagree with a story; just like or dislike.

I personally believe that homosexuality isnt an ok thing. Your probably saying "well then why the hell did you buy and play the game" Well because it was a very interesting and new indie game, getting great reviews, and I had a great time exploring the house and reading about the family and their stories. I was just saying that I was a little disappointed how the story went from "Why am I here" to "Lets be lesbian and run off together." I thought this was very annoying. I was mad they didnt expand on the supernatural stuff, and maybe I wished the story wouldve been more profound and ended on a sad note. Anyway, this is probably going to get every one to flip out. NOW THAT I HAVE ADRESSED SGRECO1970 CAN WE STAY ON TOPIC PLEASE. I DONT WANT A FLAME WAR ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY, NOT THE TIME OR PLACE TO DISCUSS.

To Flyboy,
Actually keeping the stoy real was what alowed for a profound ending. If they went supernatural they would also have to go superficial and forgettable.

Well, no, What I meant was better realize and give a greater emphasis on the supernatural stuff. Not end on supernatural and make that the story, just expand on it more than they did. What I said about the profound sad note thing was separate from the supernatural comment. (sorry I was kind of confusing.) I was saying I might have even cried if I went up into that attic and found my little sister there dead, by one of two ways, suicide because of sadness, or murdered by someone, (and that wouldve been why no one was home.) If something like that happened, I wouldve played that game like 5 times, and reccomended it to all of my friends. But alas The ending was weak. Or maybe a less sad but still sad note, like Lonnie DOES go to basic training, and leaves her, and they sadly move on. I dont know, all im saying is that the game couldve been so much more.

I was anticipating her death, perhaps even her body in the attic. That would have been fine for an ending but not surprizing. It was nice though to end on a high note after coming home to an empty house, learning about abuse of the father and possible betrayal of the mother and expecting the worst.

There was a strong anti-supernatural message in this narrative. The unwillingness to accept Sams homosexuality by her community and her parents which grows out of supstitious beliefs. By Sam getting away we have the hero achiving the games ultimate goal. In Gone Home rather than play as Mario we only watch him reach the castle.

I too was expecting the sister's dead body to be in the attic - morbid as that is, but it's where I felt the story was going.

This story did affect me as I too hid my sexuality when I was teenager, I didn't however have any sort of cool sneaking out to gigs thing... at least not until I was 19!

Uncle Oscar molested Terry on thanksgiving of 1963. Additionally, there is a childs toy in the basement in a dark creepy room. I mean it all adds up to me.
