As you can see, may other FMV games that has not DRM has been pirated...
if internet isn't required then it's very easy to pirate the game unless you add strong Drm such as denuvo or account mechanism which is complicated.
Therefore I can accept this, because this is the way to fight piracy.
Everyone spends money on games, including those who pirate all their games. Let's assume everyone can spend $50 a month. This includes those who pirate games, who still need money to buy hard drives to store their downloaded pirated games.
Here's a breakdown of different types of gamers:
Gamer A: Only plays 5-10 games a year. They can buy games at full price or with a 10%-30% discount during sales.
Gamer B: Only plays 11-25 games a year. They need to buy some games at a 50% discount or higher during sales.
Gamer C: Plays/tries over 100 games a year. They need to buy almost all games at a 75%-95% discount during sales.
Gamer D: Also plays/tries over 100 games a year, but doesn't buy any. They download pirated games to play/try. However, they need a lot of hard drive space to store the games they want to keep to play later/continue playing later.
For developers to maximize revenue, they need to sell to Gamers A, B, C, and D (to convert them to Gamer C).
Gamer D might consider buying original games because the cost to store some large-size games could be $10 per game. If the price of original games is about the same or lower during sales, it's better to get the original game.
To sell to all gamers, pricing must be based on what each is willing to pay. Sales should range from 10% to 15%, 20%, 30%, 50%, 75%, 90%, and 95%. If time passes and the game become unpopular, price drops may not make them much more attractive. If the game's sales are low, it needs to move to the next discount level to compete with other more popular games.
Enforcing online-only gameplay and making games unpiratable does not increase developer revenue. The requirement for online play may deter some gamers from being interested in it. Gamers who used to pay for original games will continue with original games, but the price must meet their spending budget.
I think we should show support by buying the game from these small developer to support and let them grow to be better than nagging for offline capability just to play the game without supporting the developer and pirate it, because I know developer of this game and many more game like this I played such as My Destiny Girls care so much about the players feedback and trying to keep improving.
I am sad that people start pirating game from small developer that is not that expensive even from day one as they gave their heart, time and passion to develop a game and cater to players feedback which even some AAA developer such as SQ, Ubi or Scamco seems doesn't have ear to hear player feedback.
Today I just noted that the dlc of this game seems to get Japanese subtitle as there is patch notes about it, the developer keep their promise to listen to the feedback of players, why don't we show support by buying the game which is priced as very reasonable price for the content and lesson you will learn by playing the game ?
And with today ages of life, internet has become necessity so it's hardly impossible if you say you don't have internet because you can use your phone as internet source for your PC/MAC and this kind of game doesn't require lots of bandwith after you downloaded the game fully.
For those people who crack games, they do it as a hobby and a challenge to crack them in a quicker time. They crack AAA games to indie games that cost less than $1, just to show that almost every game is crackable. This includes GTA 5 on the Xbox 360 console, which the developers put so much effort into preventing from being pirated, but it still got pirated within 1 week of release on the console. Most game crackers will leave a note like "If you like this game, support the developer, buy the original game." The pirated game is meant to be free to try. But if the game price is too high, then the gamer who has played the pirated game might just say, "Sorry, your price is too high, can't afford it." Most gamers who used to play pirated games are those who play/try 100+ games per year, so they could only spend $5 per game.
As a Gamer C (myself), let's compare these two AAA game publishers, EA vs Activision.
EA - almost all of their old AAA games go down to below $10 or $5 during a sale.
Activision - only a few of their AAA games go down to below $10 or $5 during a sale.
The total EA earns from me is around $200-$300, compared to Gamer A, it may be around $400-$800. It's still good earnings and better than earning nothing from Gamer C. The total Activision earns from me is around $10-$20. Activision could earn $200+ from me if they put all their old COD games on sale at a low price.
Most of the EA games I have bought, I did not have time or space to install. They are just collections in my game library. It's the same for COD; those old COD games I already played from subscriptions, borrowing from friends/stores, or at friend house. But if it's just a few dollars, I'll get it into my game library as a collection, but I may never use it.
The developer first has to target Gamer A and B as the most profitable customers, then Gamer C and D (convert them to C). If the developer goes for a more attractive price early, it could get Gamer C to buy it at a 50-60% discount if the game is quite a new release. The pirated gamer is Gamer D, a less profitable customer, and almost all games are crackable.
I quite like FMV titles, but I don't always play the games I purchase right away, and it would be extremely disappointing to buy something when it's on sale, and when I finally get to play it, I can't, because servers are down, for... a single player FMV game.
I wish these developers would at least update the game to run offline, after a certain period of time.
Anway, I was wondering if anyone knows of a list of which of these FMV titles are always online?
So far, I found these titles to be always online (unless a recent update changed things):
-Love Is All Around
-Knowledge, or know Lady
-Breakout 13
-Beauties! They're All After Me
thank you
