Agreed, sometimes you want to do the laundry or make a meal while waiting for a game to load. They can be useful.
im so sick of people saying ssd's are "dirt cheap". a 4tb samsung s7 external is as much as a ps5, stop saying misleading crap that isnt true. is it the most expensive part of a pc. no. but a cpu, ram, gpu actually do stuff except store files. the fact a 4tb ssd is nearly $600 in australia is a joke if they want to start making it a requirement for games, half the price at least. and yes i have two m.2 980s in my laptop. they are only 2tb each though, since laptops cant really take larger ones than that. a few of these bloated titles on there and you fill most of a 2tb without even thinking about it.
Sony's official requirements chart for the game lists an SSD as a minimum requirement. (Although, they've not updated the requirements listed on the Steam page to reflect this. They really ought to.)

I would imagine the game would run on a HDD but there would be longer load times and transitional stutter.

Terrible argument. You're intentionally picking an expensive SSD and saying "Look how expensive this is!" A quick google search shows I can get a 500GB ssd today for $30. GoW Ragnarok on launch day is $60.
Performance drops considerably when running on a HDD in most games. Lots of stutter

Tbf no one is buying 500gb storage. That’s for like 4 games.

The cheapest 2tb ssd I could find in my country is 111 USD. The cheapest 2tb hdd is 66 USD.

So are SSDs affordable? Absolutely. Are they on the same price level as hdds? No way.

Why just make things up when you can use the internet?

"In terms of storage, the market is divided into under 500 GB, 500GB – 1TB, 1TB – 2TB, and above 2TB. Among them, 500GB – 1TB dominates the market due to its balanced storage capacity and cost-effectiveness. It offers ample space for operating systems and applications at a reasonable price compared to higher-capacity solid state drives."

500GB is plenty big. Only AAA games are 100GB+ in size.

Maybe like 5-8 years ago. I'm sorry but if anyone is buying 500GB Storage, they are just wasting both physical space inside their case and ports.

500GBs in 2024 is considered to be bare minimum for a school/work notebook. Not a main machine intended for gaming.

I feel sorry for anyone that, in the face of facts, goes "Nah that's wrong, and I'm right anyway". Have you heard of the flat earth movement? They'd love to have someone like you.

500GB is plenty, as evidenced by 500GB - 1TB SSDs dominating the end user market.
Depends on the HDD. Modern HDDs are similar in speed to older SSDs.

you shouldn't be gaming on PC in 2024 if you can't afford an SSD. Literally one of the cheapest parts to buy.
I'm sorry but this is such a stupid reason. If people can't afford something, they automatically should not play on PC? A fast HDD is ALSO an option.
But they can afford to buy new games for 60€ (or more)?
I think i paid little over $300 for my samsung 990 pro 4TB nvme drive when i got it. I also own the same drive for just the OS even though it's 1TB. I also own multiple hybrid HDDs, and one of them i use for gaming as well. Hybrid HDD's are good for gaming as the speeds are much better than regular HDD's.
nobody ever said PC gaming was cheap. If your over here complaining about SSD prices then maybe you dont have much experience building PC's. I finally just disconnected my 225 GB samsung 840 ssd because i have to many drives now and 1 had to go. It worked fine for over 10 years. With the cheap prices and huge capacitys now its not wild to think you will use this SSD or NVME for the next 20 years. Getting a 1 tb nvme for under $100 right now that will be useful for that long. Sounds fine to me.
ssd only loading faster no fps boost or unplayable

if you are not rich and buy ssd for gaming then thats big scam for you

for gaming only btw i have 500gb nvme ssd for windows and 1tb hdd for games
