That does NOT take 30 minutes. Ten minutes at best. And it's far from the worst "walking cutscene" of the game. if you already survived the bore of the Jotenheim chapter, you can handle this.
As for the point, the kid was traumatized by what happened and obviously blames himself for being indirectly the cause. He's shellshocked and just wants to wander off and hunt like the good-ole days to take his mind off it. Kratos understands what he's doing and decides to be a good dad and just follows him as he works it out and then is there for him once he wants to talk about it. In the end Kratos stops the hunt since he knows killing the deer won't make the pain of the moment go away.
