Should I be mindful around upgrading?
Or do materials come in heaps later on?
Right now, 6 hours in, I have materials enough only to upgrade one set for one step each.
I am afraid to do it, because what if I want something else, and there's little materials to be had.

Upgrade only when the game gets to hard. It's usually not worth upgrading the initial sets because you're never using them ever again once you get better ones.

Not entirely true, for example the base set once upgraded high enough gives you 30+ of every single stat, other set get bonus stats added when upgraded after a certain level.

The only single thing that makes sets different is the set effects, nothing else, and not all of them are that good to begin with.

Alright, thank you both. But how about the materials then. It would've seemed they are not plenty from your responses.

I am far into the game and I'm casually acquiring +6 Forged Iron, or Skins, etc. wherever I go. So, I've discovered that it's safe to say, "You don't have to be stingy with upgrades at all." At least not when the first few levels are concerned.

My experience is that you can't switch builds later since you dont have enough materials to upgrade other equipment.

Went every side quest and challenge do far. Intentionally not going to the last part - where you get warned to be prepaired.

Once you get musfel unlocked you can repeat challenges for mats and brook will start selling lower materials as you level up so spend is better than to save but I would sudjest not upgrading till you get stuck on a fight so then more options on what you want are ready to go

I see, so the stuff I said probably applies only to lower-tier upgrades then. Shame. I'd have liked the possibility of switching high-tier equipment in order to experiment during the latest parts of the game.
