Would I be able to play God of War Ragnarok work offline/on airplane mode/no wifi on the Steam Deck?

Preparing for a trip and wanted to know if I could play the game when I have little to no access to wifi or internet in general.

Hey, Keebz? Saw a recent update for Ragnarok yesterday. Said something about steam deck button not being mapped and blocking tutorial moment. Any ideas if this could correlate to controls hopefully working while offline?

I was hopeful but I tested after the update and sadly it didn’t fix this issue. It’s frustrating how little I’m hearing on the topic.

I sent in a support request to Steam Support because I noticed they actually had an option I hadn’t seen before to ask for help over a Steam Play/proton compatibility issue. Hopefully if enough people make noise this issue will get sorted by either Valve or Santa Monica.

Thanks again for the update! Guess i won’t be taking it on my trip then. Was sooo looking forward to playing it again. Also hoping they’ll figure something out though for the future.

Wrong. Once you sign in for the first time, you can play offline. I do it all the time. My internet is out right now, and I'm playing, and I'm posting on steam with my ipad (using cell data)

Are you doing it on a steam deck with steamOS? Not windows. That's what this thread is about. Nobody can get input recognized on Deck in offline mode without secondary controller. We know it works on windows.

game launches perfectly fine for me at work on offline mode steam, on my Asus ROG Ally Z1E. but I basically lost like 3 hours of progress due to my stupidity. steam cloud can pull a diddy party on you if you choose wrong.

Steam storefront says it's required, Sony says it's required, but what truly baffles me is that there are reports of people saying they couldn't get past the menu if they didn't sign into a PSN account, and others saying they never even got the prompt at all. And what's weirder is that a big portion of the people who didn't sign into PSN maintain they never even used PSN on their PC at all.

I'm just seeing conflicting reports everywhere, it's hard to know what's true and what isn't. Just seems like it's a bug or something?

personally when i first launched the game i got the pop in saying.."SIGN IN" or "QUIT GAME"

Ya this is the part of the post people are ignoring. OP is asking specifically about the steam deck, and like you mentioned, there is an issue with input not working when in offline mode that they still haven't fixed.

Wait why can't I do it? I signed in. I can't start it up from offline. I gotta start it up online then turn it offline. Won't let me offline play otherwise.

Can you elaborate on this? I’d love to play this game offline but I’m not sure what file your talking about or where to move it to.

FWIW...

I just went into Steam's online mode and started the game up no problem just a couple of moments ago. No need to sign into a PSN account either.

I'm not playing on a Steam Deck since I don't have one, but I had no issues starting the game up from my PC while offline and without being logged into Sony.
