I was getting reports from someone that SteamOS won’t let you start from offline later on? It just crashes?
Say I connect a psn to my steam the first time, right? Will I them be able to launch the game offline after I quit the game and come back later with no internet?
Also forgot to ask, did you mean it’s acting like EA or Ubisoft games that require a sign in every time you start?
We know that the psn requirement is 50/50 supposedly not needed already. The issue is one consistent thing that keeps happening to a lot of people that are trying to start the game on their Steamdeck while offline: the game won’t launch after a black screen and error/return to the steam menus.
I'm just seeing conflicting reports everywhere, it's hard to know what's true and what isn't. Just seems like it's a bug or something?
Initially it was just crashing in offline mode with an error report message popup. At some point yesterday the game was updated, or Proton was updated, and now the game will launch offline but WON'T recognize any controller input. So you can't exactly play it.
It's unclear if it's an intentional blocker or if it's a bug. You can navigate the menus by holding down the Steam button and using the trackpad/other buttons as a fake keyboard + mouse but it pretends that there is no controller connected.
People are spouting nonsense. There hasn't been a single instance or piece of evidence of anyone proving the game works offline the way it should.
Thanks so much for the explanation Keebz. Confirmed what I was just hearing from other posts on places like Reddit earlier today.
I guess I’ll hold off for now until we can figure out what it is in the SteamOS for the Steam Deck that’s actually causing offline not to work for Ragnarok (OR maybe it’s some side effect of a blocker like you mentioned—maybe even where the game needs to be read the same way EA and Ubisoft games are in game mode during each launch of their titles but maybe it’s not working correctly atm).
Anyways, thank you again. If you hear any updates, could you let us know here? I’ll definitely be trying to keep up with anything in the next few days.
Yeah I was looking forward to buying it again just to play on the go for my vacation (it was phenomenal on console). But I guess all I can do is hope they update it unless, of course, the rock paper shotgun article’s assumption is correct and it really does require online on the initial start up (which then makes using this thing on handheld without internet during long trips moot unless of course I can get some sort of hot spot stuff working in a different country? But I wanted to play different games during my flight 😭)

Does it launch the game offline/no internet via this method? That’s the main thing for me before I decide on buying it at all.
Hey, Keebz? Saw a recent update for Ragnarok yesterday. Said something about steam deck button not being mapped and blocking tutorial moment. Any ideas if this could correlate to controls hopefully working while offline?
