Is a PSN account ACTUALLY required? ANSWER: Kind of!

TL,DR: You do need to log into a PlayStation account, but only a single time. After that, you can log out and stay logged out, and the game will still work.

I'm looking for a definitive answer on this, because I've heard so many conflicting answers already. I came across this stream:

...and he clearly isn't logged into a PlayStation account, as you can see on the title screen (where it says "Sign Into PlayStation"), but he's able to play. Other people have said that they get a pop-up saying that a PSN account must be linked to Steam, or the game can't be played.

EDIT: So, it's becoming pretty clear that the PlayStation account requirement is seemingly *completely random.* Some people are forced to log in or get booted to the desktop, and others can just play without ever having had a PlayStation account to begin with. I thought this was a regional thing, but it seems to be differing even for people in the same region.

EDIT 2: I've come to the conclusion that a PlayStation account is absolutely required, there's no way around it. *Linking* the accounts is optional, but the game won't let you even get to the title screen until you've logged into a PlayStation account either via this game or another one.

EDIT 3: Okay, so... I just manually logged out of my PlayStation account using the PlayStation overlay accessed from within the game, and I can still play, even if I exit the game and start it again, online or offline. Even after exiting the game and starting it again, I was able to play without logging in, when yesterday, I was blocked from playing until I logged in again after a restart.

It asked me "Do you WANT to link PSN to Steam?" --> Yes/no.

Skipped it the first time and got to the main menu just fine. Sign in to PSN was available there.

Yes, it does not let you play if you won't log in.

It has two buttons on the start PSN Account or Exit from the game.

That streamer was given the option of Yes or No to log in, though, and he just chose Yes.

And my dumbass actually was gonna double dip and get the PC version of this game just so i could play all 6 mainline GOW games on PC lol but oh well

Forced PSN requirement after years of not requiring it i9n past releases has left a bad taste in my mouth and i will continue to ONLY buy PS games that dont require linking of accounts. Im totally fine if its optional for achievements or overlay, heck even for MP like in Legends Ghost of Tsushima. No problem!

I think its whack, but i just dont interact with that like i did in GOT, strictly playing the Story mode.

But in A SP ONLY GAME!? Bugger right off Sony

Sadly you are literally only given the choice of making an account or quit the game.



It's taken me an hour and a half just to create an account because it was bugged for me (doing it through their website fixed this).

Now I'm trying to remap the keys to my linking, only to find that once again they haven't thought of left handed people and most of the Num Lock keys do not work.

Certainly not impressed so far. Hopefully when I do finally actually get to play the game I won't have any more issues.....

I'm not signed up and I can play the game fine, the game hasn't asked me to

I was able to go to the main menu just fine. It asked about PSN's "Data Usage" thing whether or not I want them tracking my hardware for fixes. I hit "Full". After that, I wasn't asked to sign in with a PSN Account.

Since some can play without a PSN and others can't, I'm gonna guess it's a regional thing.
