That's the depot but TBH the process to roll back has a few more steps. For example, I had to change the download path (not enough storage space in C: drive) by "tricking" Steam into downloading depots wherever I wanted using a Junction Point. Also, the procedure is not only to copy and paste the downloaded depot files...

Would you please share the only 2 files changed in Patch 3? It's really just GoWR.exe and boot-options.json in exec folder, according to steamdb. There's also installscript.vdf file, but it's just a first time setup script. I assume you've already downloaded that depot, it's huge and unnecessary to download 100Gb+ of data just to retrieve 2 files from it. Thank you.
P.S I understand if you're not willing to do it and I don't actually know if steam could potentially block it or even ban you. Though rollback mods exist for other games, why not this?

Yes, the depot download took a long time, at times it would only download a few KB/s and then it would download at a decent speed. Once you have downloaded the depot (the game in its Patch 2 version) to the drive of your choice (you can trick Steam into doing this), close Steam, go to the game's installation folder, and delete all the content except the settings.ini file, then copy the contents of the app_2322010 -> depot_2322011 folder and paste it into the game's installation folder. Then, restart Steam and you should be able to play the game in its previous version (Patch 2) without issues. I recommend resetting/clearing both the game's display driver shader cache, and the Windows DirectX shader cache. Steam won't ask to update your game till they push or release a new update/patch. Do not delete the downloaded Patch 2 depot to redo the roll back procedure if needed.
Well, I can do it no problem, but isn't it easier just to replace the changed files? Yes, steam won't update the game unless another update is pushed, so just replace them, no? That's the whole point. Why download the whole thing. Besides you can actually launch the game from any folder as long as you have steam_appid.txt in the root folder with the appropriate appid inside (2322010 for GoWR). Steam will think you're playing the game specified inside that txt.

I can't speak about what I haven't verified for myself. It's what I did, and it's working flawlessly on my end. Feel free to do it differently, if you manage to download only the changed individual files. Of course, I will not share any game files, just the steps I followed to roll back successfully.

Ok, that's fair. I will create a rollback patch myself then. Will take a long time, but as long as I have a list of changed files in the future updates I can backup them beforehand.

It sounds good.

Out of curiosity, how will you download only the separate changed files using the Steam console? Or will you download the depot first and then isolate, pack, and store the changed files only?

There's no known way to download individual files (otherwise I won't be here in the first place), so I'll download the whole depot, then take only the changed files (patch 3 changed only 3 files, patch 3.1 changed 2) and put them in my main folder replacing the 3.1 hotfix files. That'll essentially revert the game to a patch 2 state. Well, patch 2.1 actually, it's undocumented here, steamdb has it listed. Actual patch 2 changed 33 files total.

Steam by default postpones your game update and put it in a queue unless you have set it to high priority. By the time when a new update is live, steamdb usually already scanned it, so before hitting update or (re)starting steam I'll backup what's needed, let steam do its thing, then put back the backed files.

so what are the actual steps to do the rollback other than downloading the depot files?

since nobody's answered it seems possible from my reading, but i am having issues finding a way to "roll back" in the way described of "just the file changes made" and not needing a another 150GB of storage space...
the method i found seems to be using the tool you can get to manage depots on steamdb, which enables you to select volume/directory for the files, of the depot or manifest in question. unfortunately how to get just the files that have changed in the v2.1 ->3.1 patches is something i have not been able to figure out (storage space is a premium on my end).

Help still needed- in other words.

Open STEAM, then type:

Windows Key + R (enter)
steam://open/console

Now on Steam CONSOLE type this: (for rollback to PATCH 4 OCTOBER 2024)

download_depot 2322010 2322011 8578441647152409881

NOTE: This will take long time to download from DEPOT , when it's finished the console will say it's completed. Be patient and wait don't close STEAM.

When it's finished copy all content downloaded from " C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content " (it's inside a depot folder), and paste all files on your God of War Ragnarok installation folder.

This will FIX all the insane FPS drops isues for who have problems inside Realm Between Realms and House of Sindri's.

Cheers!!!
