Reduced puzzle hints
Like, it's a definitely good step towards what used to be an absolute norm in game playing: a challenge to overcome an obstacle. But, man, in half cases everything is spilled upon you in the matter of seconds after you've encounter a puzzle, anyway. This is horrible. I know I won't change a thing by this "whine", but I want this completely off. And it's not like the game's combat is something easy, anyway. I'd understand this in a game like "Choo Choo Train and Cherry Picking" but not in a mature, combat-difficult game such as GOW:R

Man... this new trend of total holding by the hand in AAA games sucks the major time. Probably due to all of the toxic kids review-bombing games for "I have to use me br41n and I can't hold my focus for more than 3 seconds" kind of stuff, and related sales dropping. But, man, why have been the developers in general getting so dense, lately?

I mean, let the holding by the hand be as a default game's behavior for casual players (or those toxic whiners, who, unfortunately, make up for a large share of the market), for all I care, and let there be an option to completely turn those off for normal people who find pleasure in overcoming obstacles, training, getting better.

From what I heard, this is on Sony, not on Santa Monica. The PC version actually sports at least this one step forward because Santa Monica intervened at least a bit. I am thankful for that. I just don't understand why a more sane approach, such as the one above, isn't a common practice already.

completely agreed. and this setting works so odd - sometimes they hint like within 5 seconds, sometimes they are silent forever and sometimes atreus is silent but he goes to the place where you need to be to proceed, so he hints anyway. why there was no of such sh1t in the previous game?

btw, i hate it when mimir yells some combat hints like "use your shield, brother!!!", etc. it's just awful

Maybe we're going to get a mod. I know that Horizon: Forbidden West has got one already. "Shut up Aloy" it's called. And it does exactly the thing we were reffering to—making away with all the solution spoilers. This game had it even worse, though. You were presented a solution literally 2 seconds and every time after you've taken a look at a part of a puzzle. Playing it with the said mod is an absolute heaven-sent.

PS: The creator was considerate enough to retain all the other, usual, non-puzzle-related banter. He thought that Aloy being chatty to herself is on point, story-wise. I second that notion, even though some people voted for completely silent Aloy.

well, if this game'll get this mod, i most likely might finish it, and i don't have plans to replay it, because of:
1. atreus parts (currently in iron wood and it's such a sh1t show to say the least)
2. i still don't see improvements in combat, only downgrades. i heavily don't like this "charging" ability on both weapons, because it's slow and breaks float of combat. it becomes useful only on 6th level of axe. i'm currently 12 hours in and i'm on 4th. it seems, this game starts gaining speed even more slower than previous one.

i'd say overall it's a huge downgrade from a previous game (even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ UI). i can admit that only music, level desing of arenas (only in svartalfheim lol) and detailing got better. what are your thoughts?

Definitely slower, I'd rather agree. Although, I'm just getting used to combat, combat labors, upgrade possibilities, etc., so I am not very sure what to say about the rest.

And I feel that during roughly half of the puzzles, I was given time to come up with something on my own. The other half, Atreus, Mimir, or both (?!) immediately started shouting how this is different, or that I should try this or that, and I was like, wtf... I have Reduced Puzzle Hints on, Mimir... Atreus...?! :D

And it feels like it comes in bunches. I mean, like, one island comes almost entirely without an advice, and I'm like, cool, finally some challenge. And as soon as I hit another shore, I get showered with constant advice about everything. Weird.

So, I'm like 10 hours in, currently doing the mines where you look for Týr, and I've had a first fight since the beginning in which I felt that my equipment finally matters, that my focus on Strenght (forfeiting much armor levels) finally shows, and so the combat was a skillfull display of powerful blows.

Idk, I don't find it bad per-se, but yeah, definitely slower, indeed.

Compared to the game at launch on console the feature is a SIGNIFICANT improvement. When I played back in 22 I recall walking into puzzle rooms and Atreus immediately telling me what to do. Or sometimes right as I figured it out they would spout the answer like, bro. I got it, shut the hell up lol.

Phew, I'm glad I didn't get to experience this.

Just today, I reminsced my post here, because I've been stuck at Mines for around 15 minutes not knowing what to do, and Atreus had mere one quote, something about how we need to get across. And I was like, "Nice, here the reduced hints actually work pretty well."
Kadius Oct 2, 2024 @ 6:21am
within the first day of playing I already added to my feedback notes that whatever they considered to be "reduced puzzle hints" is clearly not enough. this option needs the ability to disable it outright.

and now, I'm not really sure how far progression wise I'm at since i like to play slowly, but I'm about 70hrs in and still I'm getting solutions to puzzles within the very second it opens up or when I look right at the solution. At first i kept thinking maybe it's puzzles we've seen for the first time, so they want to nudge us in the right direction, but nope. it's so bad i honestly don't see how it can be worse than this. I question if the feature is even working.

I agree entirely. I've gone back several times to make sure I have reduced hints turned on, due to one of the characters giving me a solution before I even have a chance to solve things on my own. I too wish there was a way to completely disable the hints.

i can only imagine that not having the option of "reduced puzzle hints" on means that the companions will point out that in the next area there will be a puzzle and you have to do so and so when you get to it, because with it on it takes them about 2 seconds before they say anything, sometimes i haven't even seen there was a puzzle yet because i opened a nearby chest first

Or that, yeah. Very good idea, by the way!
