spoilers but after cindri get the hump and hates boy. Does this mean doing side quests is pointless as I cannot get him to upgrade my gear?

You will be able to upgrade or buy some gear a little bit later again.
So don't worry: Just keep playing the main story for a bit then the shop will be available again.

hmm ok thanks. I jsut didn't wanna finish the game having not done everything. Plus, I really hate those game that end but you can still roam around and do stuff, which feels pointless...

This is why I tried to clear as much as possible at certain story points until I wasn't able to anymore due the last quests being locked behind the post game.

There's a lot of "endgame" content after you finish the main story. So don't worry about that.

Actually one of the side quests requires you to complete the main story to be completed before it can be completed!

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm stuck at a point in the story where things are purple, and I can't find any resources to upgrade my gear anymore.

I more or less just unlocked the World Tree Teleporter maybe a little past that after going to Afair or whatever to get the light and removing the dark smoke veil. Not sure where I should be going to grind more resources to upgrade gear
