guns that shoot in the direction you're facing feel bad to play with.
using WASD controls to position yourself to aim just feels clunky, that's my main take away after 9 hours, i wish the mouse could be used for something beyond clicking menus.

i suppose being able to aim these weapons would make the game easier but in that case just make the game harder to offset the players ability to aim, starting with a minigun or shotgun and having to make a choice between mining or dealing damage just makes me not want to pick those weapons/classes when there are weapons that act independent of your movement (and from my experience are a lot more effective anyway).

Directional shot feel bad? dude, mining a tunnel and just stand still dealing mass damage to the wave running towards you feels so good.

Heh.

Until the Praetorians and Exploders come rolling in saying "Oh, we arent going to have any of that now" :steamhappy:

The alignment of shooting with keyboard is tough and I agree - walking and shooting with the mouse like Vampire Survivors would be a welcome addition.

I don't think they should change the shooting-forwared, though.

Yeah, I've had a very similar experience with the Leadstorm minigun and Warthog shotgun. I went into the game thinking I could play it like a twin-stick shooter and even used my controller to try and do that, but when I moved my right stick... nothing, dude just kept facing in the direction my left stick was pointing.

While I've managed to clear some stages with forward-firing weapons, fighting bosses - particularly the last boss - is EXCRUCIATING with such weapons. The only way you can viably use them is run ahead, point back and then stand there like a lemon - and then every time the last boss jumps at you, you have to run away and reposition AGAIN, losing valuable DPS while you do so.

Meanwhile I can pick the M1000 (which targets the highest health enemy) and Boomstick (closest enemy) and just run rings around the last boss while doing crazy DPS. Why would I intentionally choose to use a difficult and not very effective weapon over an easier, more effective one? Gunner is my least-played class because of this and it makes me sad.

yeah, the directional shooting mechanic is a bit of a hot mess with the existing controls.

Early game, you can get by, but once you start climbing the difficulty levels it becomes tedious trying to run and turn to fire at the mobs - starts to sap enjoyment from the guns and classes that rely on non-seeking ammo.

Oh, absolutely. Playing it with WSAD is a nightmare. You need a gamepad stick or wait for mouse aim to be implemented.

Every other Survivor game lets you aim or disable auto-aim. I understand the mining mechanic being unique and all but then interrupt shooting when mining..

It's just one weapon, and it is insanely useful

yep it's just not fun at least not as a starting weapon

It's not that the facing forward is too hard to use, it's that the payoff isn't there IMO, minigun NEEDS the piercing upgrade to perform, the Warthog is saved by its stock knockback, and TBH Deep Rock's Minigun does have stun (functions as the knockback in this game if you will) which would feel really good, even at lower knockbacks.

As for the rest, you can "line yourself up" so as to face the mobs' direction when mining as well as drifting around their edges so as to let the minigun still graze'em at an angle, but even so I'd expect to do more from such a condition.

Also IMO Praetorians need to be Resistant, not IMMUNE to knockback.

What's annoying is that it isn't actually shooting in the direction you're facing, it's shooting in the cardinal/intercardinal direction you pressed last. So if you're facing right, and you press down, your character will start to turn to face down. You can quickly let off the button and be facing down/right, but the bullets will still shoot down because it's not actually shooting in the direction. Really annoying when I want to shoot intercard, because if you let off of one key slightly before the other, it will shoot in the direction you released last even if you're still facing intercard.

The minigun and the one that shoots behind you feel good to use, it's just the warthog is just strange, like it don't shoot forwards but it does, like you got a group of enemies infront of you and the warthog is shooting at a 45° angle aiming at that one bug at the side of the group that is just a tiny bit closer to you.
Wish that the warthog didn't move on it own that it's static in place so it's better to aim with.
