I really, REALLY dislike the minigun.

Warthog, another front-facing weapon, is one of my faves funny enough. Mainly thanks to it ALWAYS shooting and thus having amazing synergy with plasma (while mining shots just bounce behind you) and it's unstables are both really good.

Minigun just doesn't do enough for it's restriction. And even in cases I have a bit of breathing room and can turn around... it's reloading thanks to it needing an entire clip to still miss one singular grunt coming from the front while running away.

So wait. I was going to start a discussion about how the mini gun doesn't fire on elite/bosses. Is it because it's ''front firing'' only? Because I clearly remember being close to an elite on its own and the mini gun would only fire at distant trash mobs. Made me dislike the gunner from that point on.

I have to agree. The minigun, as powerful as it can be made, is simply just counter-intuitive to the entire premise of these survivor genre games. It makes you stand still in choke points to get the most value out of it, but standing still for too long in these kinds of games is basically just asking to die. Its only saving grace is that if you have a lot of other bullet projectile weapons that it procs its perk of shooting powerful bullets in 8 directions very very often.

I wouldn't mind if it was changed to be something like a 360 degree fast rotating weapon like the flamethrower, or if you could manually aim it with your mouse. But anything is better than how it's currently working.

Indeed it seems to go against what this game is about, namely, kitting mobs around while you gather/farm resources. I don't like it.

Manual aim is a nice idea btw. Reload time is long enough not to make it an overkill.

Minigun is very underwhelming in my opinion. And making it 360 degree would make it even more useless since if you kite the enemy right, the shouldn't completely surround you.

The minigun has grown on me a bit, it's possible to shred HP with proper upgrades, but better aiming is needed.

Kiting the enemy to train them still involves you effectively running away from them, as in facing the other way, so your damage output is pretty much zero. 360 attack would at least have some DPS.

I didn't like the minigun till I got the overclock where it doubles RoF and damage in exchange for making your other weapons 30% less effective

By that point the gun was literally shredding through crowds and it made the dreadnaught fight feel like an elite.

I find when I can stack shotgun and minigun together I can round up the bugs, plant my back against the wall and mow. Even the elite mini bosses get knocked back enough to kill them before they get to me. Like everything else though you have to build damage to make them work. Even just the minigun itself is nice because you can run right through enemies and they die as you run. The alternative is the driller, who shoots out his back with his first default, which provides a totally different play strategy.

I agree!

its a ok mechanic for survivor games in general it just doesnt fit this one where you want to mine and have your back to your enemies all the time because of it.

The minigun doesn't feel good or fun no matter how hard i tried to level it up, it felt more like a punishment rather than an actual viable option
Ronn Feb 16, 2024 @ 2:22pm
Came here for this, what on earth are they thinking? Such a non-fun weapon.
Welbert Asker Feb 16, 2024 @ 2:22pm
I just breezed through hazard 3 with maxed out minigun. it's really strong if you have 40%+ crit
