Fun is subjective and there's nothing forcing you to go up in hazard if you're not having fun. There's no meta progression locked behind beating all biomes in haz 5.
DRG:S wasn't about «get good». It was calm and relaxing. Now it's about grinding, leveling up passives and dodging non-stop. Obviously, the developers simply don't have enough ideas to hold back the player's progression. They think that the game will quickly become boring and will be abandoned, leaving a negative review.
that's how it was before too. Not sure why you think it suddenly did a 180° turn, because it really didn't.
This isn't about a 180 degree turn. This is about the devs making the bad aspects of the game even worse.
Each update has refined the game and made it significantly better. Doing a normal Hazard 5 dive is way easier than it ever was, while we also have several anomaly modes and the daily/weekly contracts for those who want a challenge.
Most of the crowd have been complaining about the difficulty being too high since the beginning. The devs have addressed that while keeping it interesting for the rest of us too.
The only thing I HATE is the nerf to the scanners. I do not agree with restrictions on my power curve in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME. If I want to play the odd game where I stack gold scanners and gold tipped bullets, that should be my decision. Not some arbitrary rule "just because".
I'm not sure what game you've been playing, but DRGS has always been about nonstop dodging and winning by the skin of your teeth. The only time it was calm and relaxing is if you intentionally played on a lower hazard level to keep things easy. That option is still open to you if you want to turn your brain of and vibe.
