Meta Progression Suggestion - Needs More Choice?
Hey all, thoughts on the meta progression? Being able to unlock every single upgrade kinda takes away the interesting decisions later on. Maybe the goal shouldn't even be to unlock everything? If you couldn't get it all, you'd have to actually choose what matters for your build. Right now, especially for high hazard levels, it feels less important because you can just grind everything on Hazard 1 eventually anyway.

So, what if some top-tier upgrades needed a special resource only from Haz 4/5? That forces a choice and gives a real reason to play harder difficulties for unique progression, not just unlock the same stuff faster. Thoughts?

Yeah, I’d love for there to be more real choices! We still don’t know what the plans are for 1.0 but I hope it at least touches this somehow.

Whether your idea or something else is secondary to me.
I think it would be interesting to have more choices in the meta progression, but it would come at the cost of needing to respec those choices frequently. Imagine if instead of just jumping into today's daily dive, you had to spend time reorganizing your meta upgrade choices so that they were optimal for the build you had planned.

I agree with this, it would just lead to more time in the menu and less in the game.
This game is entirely made up of choices, it doesn't need more in the pregame.
Maybe you could have different profiles for each of the sub-classes? That would help reduce how often you needed to respec. If you wanted things to be fully optimal though, you'd still have to modify things for different mission types.

I think if they implemented this the entire community would explode in a fit of rage demanding they be able to complete meta just like every other survivor game allows.
Maybe Error Cubes from normal DRG could make a good Metaprogression currency, with each one giving a point towards a skill tree that costs cubes, credits, and assorted minerals for small, positive modifiers, Like +0.5 base potency to All weapons with [Acid], or starting level progression 10% through as a Head-start. There could also be mutually exclusive choices, like one that starts level progression 5% in the negatives to give a bit more time per floor that cannot be combined with Head-start upgrades.

The normal metaprogression can coexist with this as the skill tree could be mostly miscellaneous stuff and the Main metaprogression would stay as what we have. Also, all skill tree upgrades could be 100% refundable like the main upgrades.
