[PSA] Deleted progress (workaround)

I've seen a couple of threads on players losing all their progress due to a crash. Until the devs fix the issue you can back up your game using the Steam Backup feature:

Edit 1: Make a copy of your %appdata% so that you can recover you data if your progress gets deleted. The Steam Backup does not recover the save file; it's only the install files from what I can understand.

Edit 2: Take a look at Duke of Suffolk's comment if you lost your progress without having a back up and want to get back some of your lost progress.

Edit 3: fbane was generous enough to offer a save file if you lose yours. The link is in the comments.

The problem with this is that a lot of people who are losing progress are first time players so backing up saves isn't a viable option.

These people start the game and play for a bit then something happens and they lose their progress.

I managed to reproduce the deleted progress on my file. The Steam backup file did not recover my data unfortunately. I was however able to copy my %appdata% for the game that I made a backup of before testing and I restored my game state.

Long story short, make a copy of your %appdata% so that you can recover you data if your progress gets deleted.

It's your Windows user AppData folder. It's a hidden folder that contains application data. You can do a Windows Search for AppData.

The path should look something like:
C:\Users\(your Windows profile name)\AppData\LocalLow\Funday Games\DRG Survivor

I believe the save file is drgs.dat but just make a copy of the whole DRG Survivor folder.

My progress wipe happened when I alt-tabbed. I believe it caused my GPU driver to crash. I had to manually reboot. I alt-tabbed multiple times but I guess that time, the game didn't like it. I'm also curious as how other players progress wipe occurred.

I can only imagine this will be fixed in the near future.

This happened to me yesterday and ive had a look at the save file in the appdata folder that others have mentioned and there is a simple solution to gain back the majority of lost progress if you don't any backup

Open the file called drgs.DAT (this is the save file that gets wiped) and at the bottom of the text document you should see something that looks like this.

change the xp value of each classtype to 60000 or more and launch the game. Then do one dive (doesn't matter if you complete it or die). The game will then think you have earned 60000 xp and will advance you through the ranks to around level 20 or so unlocking everything with it. The only thing you cant easily add are the overclocks which are easy enough to get once you unlock the weapon anyway.

Edit 1: I neglected to mention stat upgrades, resources and credits. Stat upgrades can be found in the same drgs.DAT file at the top called "metastatupgrades. You should see all the corresponding upgrades and there respective levels. Simply change the level from 0 to whatever you like up to 12 which is max. eg: "MetaStatUpgrades":[{"Id":"msu_damageMod","Level":8} for level 8 damage upgrade.

credits and resources are found at the bottom of the text file right before the class ranks mentioned above and are simple values that you can change.

As long as the devs don't encrypt this file it would be pretty easy for someone to make a save editor.

You want to see if you have a drgs.dat file. If you do make a backup of that first.
Then open the original drgs.dat file and delete everything and paste the info from the link.

It won't be your save anymore and you'll have whatever progress I was at, but its better than ground zero.

In case someone wants to save the data via batch-file, you can create a new .bat-file and use this. This will create a backup of your savedata in a new folder on your desktop. You can use this over and over since only newer files are being copied.

/E - Copies subfolders even if they're empty
/H - Copies hidden files
/I - Creates folder if the folder doesn't exist in target location
/D - Only copy files newer than the ones in the target folder

this is ridiculous......so i downloaded that file from that link. Delete the actual one in folder replace with that one? Run a mission? Did not work. Is this game in early access? If so I forgive this, if not this is unacceptable. I grinded hard to get my dudes up....game is fun ill do it again. But not before learning how to properly do this BS that a consumer should not have to do just to play a game. AND NO I will not just use someone elses save.....defeats the purpose.

There are MULTIPLE tips in this thread including checking your steam cloud saves.

Lets try to keep this thread clean and constructive and not throw mud at the developer.

Hello. I have played the game in Steam offline mode, now I had to recover the save files in appdata. Now I am playing in Steam online mode. The issue is, that I am not able to get the Steam Achievements which are already done in the save file. What is the solution for this?

Just adding a +1 to the affected users list. I don't want to play someone else's save, so i'll be uninstalling :(

i've clocked 90 hours so far on this game, so I definitely got my money's worth. Just disappointing to lose so much progress and not have any way to recover it. I tried extracting my cloud save, but it had already been overwritten. I'm pretty bummed about the whole thing.
