But here's the thing... Haz 5 is meant to be a challenge. It's currently the hardest difficulty in this Early Access game. I agree some builds/weapons need tuning but it's more helpful to discuss those individual weapons than it is to make a blanket statement.
TBH there are so many weapons that I feel need buffed that it would be easier to list the ones that don't.
When killing the elites basically requires you to drop pod them, because you will be overrun by all the small bugs you already can not clear, it's very evident that the balance is just bad.
Seems the devs rely on you triggering the exploding bugs, but that's just all around bad design.
Doesn't help that there's no Re-roll protection, Artifacts are terribly balanced, you can't Reroll Artifacts and Upgrades cap out at pretty low values.
I end up accidentally killing the elites while kiting them most of the time. Don't need drop pod for that.
Scout Sharpshooter is imo the easiest class. M1000 and the class mod bonuses of +15% Crit chance and +50% Crit damage make it extremely strong. M1000 is also one of the best weapons in the game and reliable when it comes to targeting. The other scout mods are viable too since they have decent starting weapons and class mod bonuses... and access to M1000 and Cryo grenades. M1000 and Cryo grenades on Hazard 5 gives you lots of leeway on what other weapons you have.
Gunner Heavy Gunner and Juggernaut class mods are good too. While the Juggernaut has a mediocre starting weapon, it has nice class bonuses. Both have access to Thunderhead, Seismic Repulsor and Leadburster. Gunner has by default some of the best weapons available.
Engineer is also really strong. Both the Maintenance worker and Tinkerer class mods are easy to build and can clear Hazard 5 reliably. Maintenance worker has access to constructs so you can pair those LMG Gun Platform turrets with Seismic Repulsors and Voltaic Shock Fence. Lots of damage and CC available. The Tinkerer on the other hand has the Warthog. It's a really good weapon even at level 1 and with OCs can carry you through the whole map.
Driller is the weakest of the four. Foreman is the best since Subata 120 is actually really reliable and does good damage when focused. It can kill the Dreadnought at Hazard 5. Driller also has some of the weakest default weapons available. Beam weapons with short range just don't cut it. DoTs take too long to kill things. Strong Armed is not really a strong class mod, but it can do the job better than the Interrogator since it can get Cryo grenades thanks to having access to throwable weapons.
I got everything unlocked at around 43 hours. Have completed all the biome challenges and clear Hazard 5 with a high success rate. When I fail a dive, it's because I'm being too greedy with materials or EXP.

Welcome to roguelites. If you don't like RNG, don't play the genre that is built around RNG.
There is a lot more to take into account with weapons as well. Some are terrible early but great with overclocks. Some don't do much damage but have great functionality (like the boomerang picking up XP). Some have great AoE but struggle against elites, and vice versa. You also need to pick weapons that synergize with each other so you can stack global upgrades like projectile, kinetic, etc. All of that is to say it's not so simple as having good and bad weapons, there are weapons that are good/bad for different situations.
However for some reason fire only lasts for 1 second and doesn't even kill the weakest enemies on haz5 so on top of being short ranged, risky and not doing enough burst damage to kill enemies outright, the flamethrower doesn't even do its 1 job of getting rid of trash mobs reliably.
Everything fire really needs a buff bad and that's almost everything the driller gets.
Dudes most reliable weapon is his pistol.
The issues I'm having with Engineer are probably related to scaling. Yeah the Warthog is good if I can get plasma on it, and Voltaic Shock Fence is a great support weapon but I find it needs a lot of levels and then my damage weapons are underpowered. I'm sure I have some room for improvement and I definitely greed too much but with a lot of builds I feel like I'm throwing pebbles at them.
No it doesn't. You want a godmode slaughter fest, go play VS. That's not what this game is.
