Why are grenades so terrible?
Consistently the worst weapons to use for me has been any throwable except the boomerang. Only reason the boomerang ISNT bad is its innate reload is so fast that once you get a few upgrades its constantly being thrown out.
Why are the other ones not that way? The amount of times ive had a giant blob of bugs right next to me and the grenade gets lobbed OVER THEM and hits like 2 bugs then has a long CD has been infuriating.

Gotten to the point where if i get forced to take a throwable early on i just restart. Theres no point in using them when a lot of unupgraded weapons feel more impactful than a grenade you pumped upgrades into.

Grenades needs a much shorter CD, more throws w/o mods, or be considerably smarter about where they go.

Cryo grenade with the triple grenade overclock is pretty op for shutting pretty much every enemy down. Besides that one, I agree they're pretty terrible.

Really? Damage-wise, I've had immense luck with grenades once you have overclocks. Though those builds are nearly unplayable right now due to explosion visuals completely blinding you after a certain point.

Meanwhile, Boomerang betrays me every single time.

Boomerang is a fun one because while you can't control where you throw it, you can control its path on the way back to you. Just put the swarm between you and your boomerang. Almost no other weapon in the game works like this. Even the minigun autolocks onto targets in front of you and you can't force it to aim at a particular target in a swarm. I especially love the overclock that picks up xp and loose items for you. I spend a lot less time backtracking over areas to scoop up xp and more time gathering gold and nitra from new parts of the map.

As for other throwables, I'm a big fan of the bullet grenade that gunners get. With the overclock that makes it split into 3 grenades it becomes extremely potent against anything standing in the center. It's kind of like the flamethrower turret but scales with kinetic damage instead of fire. If I didn't have that overclock, I'd probably be just as happy or happier with a gun instead of that grenade, but that doesn't make it useless. As mentioned, cryo grenades are amazing and are an essential tool at high hazard levels.

The basic kinetic grenade is pretty bad for the reasons the OP already listed. If it misses, it does nothing. Incendiary grenades tend to be low impact too. I haven't used throwing axes enough to form an opinion. Like the grenades themselves, the quality of grenade types are hit or miss.

Minor point but the boomerang also gets thrown copy in opposite direction at overclock 18. Also gathers materia and xp at an earlier overclock.

Granades do too little damage so killing bosses is almost impossible.

Yea grenades need some rework. Damage/CD sucks and visual clarity is non existant. I don't think i completed single dive with grenades only. Cold one is cool utility, but the rest is pretty much useless and only pollutes the screen.

I've completed a Haz4 dive with only throwables (Strong Arm driller)... Axes are okay, Leadburster is very strong, Cryo grenade is OP as hell. Don't remember what the fourth one was.

But yeah, other than those, very meh. I don't feel like the game properly balances weapons that can't be aimed, because that's a *very* harsh drawback in a game where you need to carve paths to safety.

On top of that, incendiary and neurotoxin do awful DPS, so I don't consider them takeable.

The axe is not a grenade tho. And it does good single target damage.
I have had fun with a pure 'nade build - -30% damage, x3 warheads on multiple grenade types with fast reload, bonus radius and lots of damage boosts of course!

Because you don't know how to upgrade them properly. Plenty of excellent weapons in this game.

Cryo grenades doing 44k DPS is weak? The only problem with grenades is that you can't see the map and the enemies due to the explosions filling up the screen.

Honestly the main issue is that to make them useful is that you have to upgrade them while other weapons will just start out as being useful from the get go. That in itself makes it a weaker weapon option to begin with. The only one that's really useful so far to me is cryo and that's for the CC.

When I was doing lvl25 quest for incentiary grenade I played all 4 throwables and it was hell for bugs. The main problem is that I couldn't see anything. So I had to ASSUME that bugs are dead underneeth all that FX clutter to step anywhere.
