I really like that there are difficult stretch-goal type challenges.
I suspect that these will get easier over time as more more other systems and meta progression gets added (so you can always say that you cleared this in the original harder version). But maybe if they add warnings, things can get harder too.
- Deepcore GK2 (19 - OCs: Battery Bullets, High Caliber Rounds, Lead Wrapped Ammo)
- Jury-Rigged Boomstick (19 - OCs: Battery Bullets, High Velocity Bullets, Mini Pellets)
- M1000 Classic (9)
- Cryo Grenade (7)
No idea if that's the "optimal" OC selection on my main weapons, but it's not like we get rerolls, so such is life. Also, the M1000 at Level 9 put up nearly identical DPS to the Deepcore at Level 19, so make of that what you will.
To me, the issue is that guaranteed/fast-developing crowd control isn't really available in the Classic Scout's weapon set, and investing heavily into things like Cryo Grenade just cuts into your damage output, which you also desperately need. This is on top of a total lack of access to the game's strongest weapons, and a very mediocre class mod bonus. In contrast, I played Tinkerer Engineer after this to get the 4 Plasma Weapons goal. I reached the goal and got a win in two tries, off the strength of the Warthog and Shard Diffractor.
M1000 is for the damage (pick the split bullet unstable overclock)
Boomstick is for damage and knockback
Cyro nade is well for freezing, try to pick the 3 split nade and the bigger area, ignore damage go full reload on this.
I managed to reach Lv43 on the first level before being forced to leave due to too much density.
Most I got was early 20s, before the game keeps saying "enemies are getting stronger" and then the bugs got super speedy and overwhelm me.
I never liked the Classic Scout especially not in the salt pits. Didnt make a screenshot because im an idiot, but i think i ran around in this build(only one magnet came up wich i couldnt get at the end of phase 2, full trigger
Deepcore GK2 (eletric, piercing)
Voltaic Stun Sweeper (xp gain,range)
TH-0R Bug Taser(reload explosion, reload speed and damage, beams and beams)
Arc-Tek Cryo Guard(+3 drones)
Focused on XP gain and reloadspeed(two lucky legendarys early) and obviously heavy eletric damage, highest leveled gun became the Bug Taser at the end with i think around 22.
Tipps and Tricks; Use the Pay2Win Console at the first supply pod, GGEZ.
Just joking, stall out phase 1 like a maniac and use the supply pod if you lack early damage to take out both elites at the end.
♥♥♥♥ will get hairy but you need to do it, i would recommend not to leave until at least lvl24. Use the red salt crystals as late as possible.
I would try to abuse plasma/electric that can clear the masses of bugs with the limited arsenal the scout has. Squeeze some luck or good XP gain perks in on level up and between the phases, dont waste your gold on green +damage or movementspeed and then cant afford the legendary
You can still grind it out with some builds and this one too, especially if you have slow drones or the cyro granades but keep them at a lowlevel, you will need to get high weapon levels to kill the elites and the dreadnought at the end.
Obviously there is always some luck involved, i had a mega run going(legendarys left and right) and got hit 3 times from one big rolling bug bouncing around getting a cute little lootbug what made me really really angry, and i think from a mapdesign and gameplay perspective the salt pits are pretty awful
