Key stuck floating in air after worm destroys building

I had this happen in a game recently where the worm destroyed a 2 story house that the key happened to be on top of. It made it impossible to proceed. Even with a ladder on a crate, i couldnt reach it. I believe the mechanic should be for that key to fall to the ground if its initial location is compromised.
