If I recall correctly, Nexile stated on their discord server that multiplayer will be something that you don't have to engage in if you don't want to.

Obviously this means that you won't have any friends or like-minded allies to help you out either, though I wager this is something that'll be preferable for solo-focused players who have no intention of getting into groups for this game.
