You asked about my error in another thread so I'm adding mine to your thread. My problem is slightly different and appears to involve fonts (?). Thanks for the tip about checking /tmp/dumps.

I'm also running 13.10 when the release notes for FM2014 are pretty specific about running 12.04 only. Is that the cause? Don't know yet.

Bad form to follow my own post...but this game is now running...but on an entirely different laptop...but still in Ubuntu 13.10. No idea how the hell this game works on one rig but not the other. The working rig is has older hardware than the non-working one.

Your error had me thinking of sound for some reason. Also, when I hear "context" with "Linux", I automatically think of SELinux. Is that a factor with your Linux distro?
scamar Nov 7, 2013 @ 1:09am
the selinux libraries are installed.
I think it isn't enabled, setenforce command is missing

What Linux OS are you using? We're currently looking into why in some cases, users on different distros are having this problem but the more information we can gather the bettter. Let me know, thanks.

I had mixed results with FM2014 and Linux. On one install of Ubuntu 13.10 (64bit) onto a laptop with two hard drives, the game generates the database error. On another install of the same OS on a single HD laptop, the game installs and plays just fine.

Tthe same game installs and runs cleanly on Fedora 19 (64bit) laptop with two hard drives.

After reading the release notes, I see that Ubuntu 13.10 isn't supported yet so that might be a contributing factor.

i've experienced this issue on several environments.
I'll focus only on the one officially supported

i don't know if this can help you, because fm is compiled withouth debugging symbols:

How is your disk storage configured? Can you share your filesystem layout (df -k)? Also, do you have any hardware RAID?

[dirrty]gsharp, can you look at
~/.local/share/Sports Interactive/Football\ Manager\ 2014/Temporary/web
if you have broken link on both notebooks?

I do recall seeing something broken in that directory on my 13.10 laptop...that was before it became a Fedora laptop though.

Here's how it looks now:

drwx------. 4 me me 4096 Nov 7 13:41 Default -rw-rw-r--. 1 me me 2096924 Nov 7 13:40 Safe Browsing Bloom -rw-------. 1 me me 781418 Nov 7 13:40 Safe Browsing Bloom Filter 2 lrwxrwxrwx. 1 me me 19 Nov 7 13:37 SingletonCookie -> 7933921595482134708 lrwxrwxrwx. 1 me me 15 Nov 7 13:37 SingletonLock -> w701.home-16015 lrwxrwxrwx. 1 me me 41 Nov 7 13:37 SingletonSocket -> /tmp/.org.chromium.kA0qT2/SingletonSocket

EDIT: That "w701.home-16015" is my machine name plus the PID for a Football Manager 2014 process:

me 16015 16014 97 13:37 ? 00:11:42 /home/me/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Football Manager 2014/fm

SingletonCookie and SingletonLock are broken links on your laptop too.
This isn't an issue then
disco Mar 19, 2014 @ 12:32pm
it doesn't work if installed on XFS. i had to move it to ntfs to get it working. didn't try ext4, don't have any atm.
