I'm also running 13.10 when the release notes for FM2014 are pretty specific about running 12.04 only. Is that the cause? Don't know yet.
Your error had me thinking of sound for some reason. Also, when I hear "context" with "Linux", I automatically think of SELinux. Is that a factor with your Linux distro?
I think it isn't enabled, setenforce command is missing
I had mixed results with FM2014 and Linux. On one install of Ubuntu 13.10 (64bit) onto a laptop with two hard drives, the game generates the database error. On another install of the same OS on a single HD laptop, the game installs and plays just fine.
Tthe same game installs and runs cleanly on Fedora 19 (64bit) laptop with two hard drives.
After reading the release notes, I see that Ubuntu 13.10 isn't supported yet so that might be a contributing factor.
i've experienced this issue on several environments.
I'll focus only on the one officially supported
i don't know if this can help you, because fm is compiled withouth debugging symbols:
about this question i have an open ticket on sega support center:

So a single drive for you then. Scratch my idea. Thanks for posting. Hopefully SI can offer some ideas.
I do recall seeing something broken in that directory on my 13.10 laptop...that was before it became a Fedora laptop though.
Here's how it looks now:
EDIT: That "w701.home-16015" is my machine name plus the PID for a Football Manager 2014 process:
This isn't an issue then
