In the top right is the name of the current edit file and the number of unsaved changes in brackets.
This is helpful to know your current changes have been saved.
When you reopen the editor again make sure you LOAD your edit file after the database has loaded BEFORE more edits.
Merge is used to obviously combine 2 edit files. I would suggest applying all your changes in one file to avoid complication.
The edit file is seperate from the database. You are not directly editing the database. Your changes are applied to the database of which there is only currently one (default).
You will only see your changes when you start a NEW game. If you want to edit a current game you must buy the in game editor via the downloads option in the main menu.
When you start a new game the first popup box to come up is "select database".
Currently there is only the default available. Under this you will see something like "number of edit files" 1 (1 enabled). This is your saved edit file applying all your changes to the database. You can have more than 1 active - just click on the ALL tab beside it to select which ones are active.
I hope that helps :)
is there a specific folder?
The editor files are not xml. They are .dbc

After the database has loaded in the editor start making changes and "save as" the first time to name your edit file. This name will now appear in the top right of the screen. Thereafter just save. As I said remember to LOAD your edit file before making new changes so you don't end up with multiple confusing files and of course DON'T FORGET TO SAVE before quitting out of the editor!

Then when you start a new game / football manager this will appear before selecting the leagues. As you can see under the default database it tells you how many editor files are present and how many are active

As classic appears to alter the gameskin I would close and restart the game as this could be an issue.
Otherwise try verifying the game cache via the game properties in your steam library. Make sure you don't delete any of the sports interactive folders in my docs as well.
I hope that helps :)
