It's all about trying to find the right balance. What you'll also notice is that the more fixtures you have, the less training time you have, which can also put the players into the red, especially if they don't get no match time.
That's why I purposely get knock out of the League Cup early on in the season just so i get more time for training...you notice it a lot.
Having the option to train ''heavy'' or ''normal'' is a quick way to manage the players overall workload. so for example if you put your general training on ''normal'' then put your match preperation bar all over to the right, you'll noticed your players get a ''very heavy'' overall workload...then if you leave your general training still on ''heavy'' but put your training bar right over to the left, you will notice that your players overall workload will go to ''normal''.
It's quite a complicated system really, and personally I think its something SI need to sort out, it really could be made quite simple.
Also training your players moves or different styles of playing for example will also give your players less general training time, which can also put your players attributes down whilst training those.
Hope that helps.
But by using your guide i had a very easy time understanding this finally, thx a bunch!!
Also during Pre-Season...Always have the Training bar further to the left to favour Match Preperation (but not all the way), then in Match Preperation, Select ''Tactics'' which will quickly get your ''Tactical Familiarity'' up, then with your General Training focus on ''Fitness'' and then ''Team Cohesion''...also play easy Friendlys and try and keep them a week apart but pick as many friendlys as you possibly can.
The Idea is to get your team fitness up and getting your players in good form before the season starts.
Once your ''Tactical Familiarity'' is right up, then on Match Preperation concetrate on the other areas, all apart from Tactical (as your Tactical Familiarity is alreay up). Then in General Training always train different areas (including Tactical) because that's your player training which will affect their Attributes ;)
Is there a way for defenders to focus only on defending (like you could do in the older games). ?
Because my CB and CDM are not getting enough defending training /(theyre red arrow) , even though balanced training is the highest percentage but regular defending is only 6%.
Tactics is 28% and attacking 11%.
But i just want defenders and CDM to have specific DEF schedule so they max, i mean Vidic is now 3 stars on second season, doest make sense :( Ferdinand is 3 stars too which is annoying lol.
First of I'll start my post by posting...I'm not the biggest expert on training, and hopefully someone with a bigger knowledge than myself can come in and help. But, to the best of my knowledge...
I think how you decide to play matches, can also have an affect on player attributes, so playing a defensive game for example where defenders will most likely be more involved with Defending, making more tackles etc which should help better with their Defensive and Mentality attributes. In my Team and with the way I play FM I have two holding DM's which help my CB's out a lot, and funnily enough I've noticed they' (my CB's) have develped the slowest in my squad because the DM's are doing most of the work for them, very raely do they make tackles.
Something else that is very important, is that be careful your not overtraining your players, remember what I posted about the players ''overall workload''? that during the season your players overall workload doesn't want to go above heavy, and even giving certain players a ''heavy'' workload can upset them, and once players are unhappy with the training workload, they will lose their attributes as they don't train, or, put very little effort in.
So always use the ''rest before matches'' and even ''rest after matches'' during really busy times, and obviously bring their workload down a little from the training bar...
But to answer your original question...you can select defending training from your General training, put the training bar further to the left then defensive attributes will be worked on harder, again...with the training bar further to the left remember to look at a players overall workload, and remember that will affect the performance of the players in match, as you won't be preperaing as much ''Match Preperation''.
Then of course you have Individual Traning, click on a players profile, then click on one of their attributes, then that should take you into that players individuals player training...then you have the option to work on each attribute, like ''Marking'' or ''Tackling'' or ''Posititioning'' etc.
What you have to remember is certain players only have so much potential too, so lets say Chiriches a Centre Back from Tottenham...I've noticed if I train his tackling it will only ever go upto 16 maximum, because that all he is capable of getting, that's his maximum potential hot for his Tackling...so you can't always expect that certain attribute to go higher as they'll fulfill that potential at one point...but when you buy players always look for players with a bigger potential (5 stars), which obviously increases the chances of getting a much better player to train, having good Scouts helps find the better one's too ;)
One other thing...with older players (29-30 years old or over) I tend to give them indivdual training for the position they play in, so if you have a CB, I tend to find that training him as a Centre Back will help him keep his important Attributes, because as players get older they'll start to lose attributes, especially physical attributes which you can do nothing about.
With younger players, work on their individual attributes more, and check to see how their progressing every month or two... your assistant in their training page will also advise you to work on different areas quite often, then when he does switch and work on a different area.
Something else that's important is having the right Coaches, Coaching the right areas...Try to have 3 fitness coaches 3 GK coaches, and then eventually look to get 2 training coaches for each area of training. But the main thing is to have the right coach for the right area of training, and start off by having at least one coach training each area (as I know at some clubs your limited as to how many coaches you can have).
Click into a coaching staffs profile and look to see what they specialise in, then once you're into the staff profile look under the ''Personal Details Area'' and you will see they have a ''Specialist Training Area'' which will say ''Tactics'' if he is a Tactical coach for example.
I'll give you a quick quide if you're looking for a certain coach as well...
Now if you want a Fitness coach go to the transfer centre, then go to the staff search and filter out ''Fitness Coaching'', and also put the ''Reputation'' into your search and then start by searching for a ''World Class'' fitness coach, if there isn't any, then change the reputation down to ''Continential'' and so on...
Goalkeeping Coaches : Search ''Goalkeeping Coacing''
Tactical Coaches : ''Tactical Coaching''
Defending Coaces: ''Tactical Coaching'' and ''Defending Coaching''
Ball Control Coaches: ''Technique Coacing''' and ''Mental Coaching''
Attacking Coaches: ''Attacking Coaching'' and ''Tactical Coaching''
Shooting Coaches: ''Attacking Coaching'' and ''Technique Coaching''
To ensure you get the right coach as well, lets say we're looking for a Defending Coach, to make sure you get a definsive coach is by looking at the staffs coaching attributes.. so with a defensive coach always look for a higher Defending Coaching attribute more than the Tactical coaching attribute, to ensure you get a Defensive coach, and not a Tactical coach.
With a Attacking coach...always look and make sure his Coaching attribute is higher for ''Attacking'' rather ''Tactical'', again to make sure you get a Attacking coach and not a Tactical coach.
One more thing as well...(I'll shut up after this lol)
Is make sure your coaches have high attributes in ''Determination'' and ''Motivation'', obviously I don't need to explain why...but that makes all the difference. And if you're looking for good under 18 coaches, they must have a high attribute for ''Working With Youngsters''.
Hope this helps more, and any more advice from anyone else would be great...because I'd love to learn more myself ;)
Sorry only just see this...
Do they have three stars for ''Current Abilty''? or ''Potential Ability''? Click into their profiles and then select ''Reports''...it should tell you in there.
Either way, that doesn't mean thats a bad thing, it's their Current Ability that matters most, especially with players of that age, because their Atributes are mainly going to only drop due to their age...they certainly won't gain many attributes apart from Mentality Attributes, which comes with experience and games.
3 star current ability normally means the player is a ''Leading Star for most Premier Division sides'' ;)
Haha but thx alot man, wowowow you surely saved my "everything i need to know" !
Thanks so much for all this valuable information :)
I'll let you know how it goes!
And no problem ;)
Ferdinand should be 2 stars then XD
Per Mertesacker has "only" 3,5 stars, but he's excellent.
There are hidden attributes which make huge differences. There are many 4 and 4,5 stars players, you see stats, WOW, but they have terrible hidden attributes.
I remember i had one of the best players in serie A in Parma called Nicolas Cordóva and he had half a star :D The lowest, but still one of the best assister in the league and had high rating all the time.
