WWE 2K24 Female Story
I'm sorry but the female story SUCKS. Forcing you to use people you don't wanna (Psycho Sally) and not really letting you make your own choices. If you want us to be a Superstar then don't let us make CAW. THANK YOU @ WWE 2K

And then there are arcs where your character plays their gimmick, whether you want to or not. That caused me to not only not finish the story, but not even start the male one.

That's what I said when WWE forced Cody Rhodes' "Stardust" gimmick.
same problem with the game from last year. and im sure itll be the same with 2k25. their career mode just isnt worth playing, and for me thats the only reason to even play these games, since its the only thing thats supposed to be new every year, yet its always just as boring and pointless. the fact that they keep doing it just indicates they don't actually care about producing a fun experience, they likely don't even enjoy wrestling. doesnt feel like it was made by fans for fans, feels like it was made with minimum effort for a guaranteed cash grab.

they'll keep doing it until we vote with our wallets. but honestly, they just need to change dev teams. from what i hear about the other 2k products, its the same story with those.

Myrise is usually ok, going by '22 and '23. '22 was a bit generic, but basically catered for most players. '23 showed some signs of being forced to play a gimmick that wasn't yours, but it was not too excessive. Having an exported male star still referred to as the lock got grating, so I deleted the export and recreated him.

But '24s female story pushed the 'play some other gimmick' too far. Killed my interest in it.

The difference was that was real life, this is a game.

It is a wrestling simulator - feel the excitement.

MyRise is actually my favorite mode. I just love reading, watching, or playing stories. I thought getting to live the lives of three types of completely different wrestler-archetypes was pretty interesting, though I see how it would be problematic if you had hard preconceived notions of who and how your character was going to be and act. That's not how it goes when you're a performer playing not a role, but multiple roles, as they always do over any length of time. I have to assume that's how the developers saw it. Myself I didn't go in with a "gimmick", just a costume and a moveset, and even though the costume wasn't always around, the moveset was, and it was just perfect for the way I like the play this kind of game. That's the secret to my success.

Skipping Undisputed over the forced gimmicks of Unleashed is a bad idea born of ignorance. You are never forced to abandon your "gimmick" for any length of time in Undisputed.

You might be right about skipping undisputed. It is almost certainly also influenced by my frustration with 2K in general. I may have a look at undisputed. Are all the forced gimmicks all for less that a full arc?

In Unleashed, there is this one super-long chapter that is split into three parts which you do in the order of your choice. Each one of these three parts is several fights long with talking in between and you have a unique, set costume and entrance in each for the duration (the "gimmicks") You can use your regular, custom setup for the first few fights though, like if I recall, before you got full jerkwad in one part, and before a demon rips out your soul and takes over your mortal coil in another part. Actually it might work this way in the third part too because in that one you're a movie star and you're not at the top of your fame from the get-go if I recall, though I'm not sure 100%. I guess you could call each part an "arc" each, they're arcs in the traditional storytelling sense, though I'm not sure exactly how you would define these in terms of length and in the context of a video game like this. They're a few hours long at most, I guess?

Unleashed will let you unlock a variety of rather fantastical outfits and all of those are from your forced gimmicks (you also get the special entrances, but DON'T use them on CAWs you want to share because they corrupt your guys once online, even if you go back and change their entrance).

Meanwhile the custom parts you get from Undisputed is like no more than three different basically color-variant dress suits. In that one you're a wrestling celebrity and you have to do public appearances outside the ring (short talk show segments or even completely off-screen). The times you fight without your custom outfit is all one-offs like in the scene where you're getting married and someone has beef with it (spoiler). You have a suit for that (and you unlock a dress for your wife and suits for your opponents).

With the male one you dont have image or costume changes ;)

I think they did a great job this year with these storys. When you dont want changes to your wrestler play the male career (Role Play Spoiler: Youre a "Face" all the time). But you will miss a few very good storys in the female one ("Face" and "Heel" Storys). Like the mysterious amulete story. Ive played both and started with the femlae story too. After playin both of it i guess the femlae story will stay for longer in my mind as the male one.

Edit: What was pretty fresh too in the female story, was that you had to swap your payment moves at some arcs. So you got special magic power from an amulet or while there was a Hollywood Movie Star Story you got a payment skill with that you were able too distract the opponent with a horde of reporters who wants to make photos from your hollywood wrestler. I think that are nice additions for future storys in 2k25/26/27...

I loved those new paybacks. Really awesome for CAWs. Like if you want to make a vampire or a guy with telekinetic powers, you now actually have mechanics for them!

This I know. Collectively it seems they are about 1/2 the storyline. That's what put me off. If I wanted to play someone else' gimmick, I'd play a different game, or play universe with all built in characters. The point of myrise is that is supposed to be about my character, not theirs. I don't mind the odd match, or maybe even a full arc that has a forced gimmick, but 1/2 the story is just too much.

The supernatural unlocks (attire, entrance etc) were really good, but not good enough to hijack my character for as long as was collectively done in unleashed.

What broke the camel's back for me though was a 6 man match (might have been a ladder, can't remember) that you had to win. And you get to repeat in until you do. I despise 'chaos' matches at the best of times, but to be hit with one of those when I was already pissed at the forced gimmick made me quit.

I can vaguely recall a multi-man match with a similar complicated stipulation. It may have been one of Crazy Foley's crazy challenges between "sub-chapters". I got through it just fine myself but I remember very well that such chaotic matches were a serious problem for many back on 2K22's late-game MyRise. I could barely handle the controls at the time so I'll admit that you aren't the only one who gave up out of ignorance. Whether the flesh pales or not, the spirit is not always willing.

Just wait until AI got the first two squares filled up and then get the rest 3 squares for the win ;)
