Game crashes after most recent patch
Hey, everyone. I got this game on friday last week and been playing almost everyday since. Today, after a new patch, the game just won't start. I click on Play game, nothing. Sometimes it does open, but doesn't get past the first screen, then crash and back to desktop.

I already verified the game files and nothing.

Any clues or workarounds?

Well, everything I suggest gets shot down so have fun and good luck.

I tried what you said but the various suggestions didn't change whether or not the game starts up - it's completely intermittent. Once the game is running it doesn't crash for me, it's getting into the game that's the issue.

I can literally just sit and press play, wait for the stop button to disappear so I can press play again - sometimes I get no screen at all, sometimes a white screen, sometimes a screen with text but the logo in the bottom right doesn't move and the game closes. If I get to the screen with text and the logo is animated, I know it's passed the point where it shuts down.

I very much appreciate all your suggestions.
The white screen is a part of the startup/loading process, FYI.

Anyways, I am under the impression that the WWE2k24.exe is compiled improperly causing users issues as it is a console-to-PC port, especially for Intel users and, maybe, AMD Radeon users as well but if you are using Win11 update 24H2, we can blame this also as it has faults and some games are not launching because of the faults, intermittently at random. :badluck:

Someone in another thread tested Win11 vs Win10 on their GPU and WIn11 crashed but Win10 worked fine (I think the second system was their friends tho but it was the same 2080Ti GPU on both). :chirp:

It could also be a mixture of the game itself and maybe the OS, especially pertaining Win11 update 24H2. :100percent:

I recommend making your own thread.

Well, at least your game turns on, but for me, a white screen just appears for 1-3 seconds, and the game turns off.
Go to Documents < WWE2K24 and open the confi.ini, the line that says "Upscaling" you would want this to say the following: Bilinear → upscaling = Bilinear and then make sure that vsync is off (for monitors with resolutions OVER 75Hz and vsync on for monitors with resolutions 75Hz and below), the upscaling will force native resolution instead of the default AMD FSR1 (which is terrible for some games/systems), after changing those , save the file and attempt to restart the game and see if that helps - if it still won't run, go back into the config.ini and at the very bottom, turn on Windowed Mode → windowed = yes (I am almost certain this should work if all else fails but if it only runs in Windowed Mode, you have a problem with your System - perhaps a driver clashing, one time I had TWO Nvidia drivers installed (how idk) that caused issues so don't rule that out as well) - my money is on AMD FSR1 upscaling causing issues tho.

This worked for me thank you so much. Legend.
Any updates on this? just bought the game, tryed all the fixes i could find online but no avail. Support ticket was created on my part today too. Lets see how it goes...
I got to launch the game again and for me it was solved by allowing the app in the controlled folder access. The steps are listed below if you need help for allowing the app in controlled folder access:

1. Click start and search for settings then click settings.
2. Select Update & Security.
3. Select Windows Security in the left side tabs.
4. Select Virus & Threat Protection in the protection ares in the right.
5. Click Manage Settings under Virus & Threat Protection Settings.
6. Scroll down until you see Controlled Folder Access then click on Manage Controlled Folder Access.
7. Click Allow an app through Controlled Folder Access.
8. Windows Security will prompt then select yes.
9. Click on Add an allowed app.
10. Find WWE2K24_x64 and add it.
11. Launch the game.

Hopefully this will help and the problem won't persist anymore.

That sucks that you just got the game and already it doesn't work for you. I got 150 hours or so out of the game before it quit launching for me. It has not launched for me since the week the WCW DLC came out in November 2024. Last week I tried to play the game on my OG Steam Deck and it runs well on there. So that's where I'll play 2K24 from here on out if I get the itch.

I allready Tryed this and basically evey other "Fix" out there, all my Drivers are up to Date, my windows too. I did change the config files, add exceptions in firewall and so on and so on. There is no real "existing" fix i did not try :( Nothings working. I opened a ticket now on 2K, the only response i got is that they have a lot of requests and it will take time to get a answer to my Problem... so yeah, we will see

Try this, change the reflections setting in the graphics settings to Medium and then save the game and exit. Then open WWE 2K24 back up and change the reflections setting to High and then save the game and exit. Then restart your computer. This clears the reflections cache in the game and could fix crashes and freezes. I did this for WWE 2K23 and it would fix my crashing and freezing problems. I hope this works for you too.

Well, I can't even get to the part in which I can change the game settings. The furthest I've been to is the second screen after the loading screen with the logos.

I changed the settings you mentioned through the config.ini file, but it didn't work.

I think the issue is when the game loads that it may be requesting too much resources on the system: I've been trying to launch the game while listening to music and it messes with the audio right before crashing.
That config file is exact which means it needs exact text, such as proper capitalization (or not). :badluck:

I have seen the audio hiccups but only when Exclusive Mode is turned on (default) in the sound settings.

One issue someone pointed out is Chipset Driver Updates (which is something not many people care to learn about) which could be a legitimate cause of crashing and not loading issues (I updated my x370 board prior to launching this game).

I make the prediction (and I could be wrong because no one is psychic), the team making this game never patches this game to fix it for the many people all having the same problems of not being able to run it. At this point the focus of the publisher might be on the next game. If that game is broken at launch the way this one is (most likely will not be broken) they will patch it that same week. This game has not been patched to fix these issues because the publisher doesn't care, or the devs cant figure out the coding problem, or the devs cant recreate the problem consistently enough to figure out what the issue is, or the bulk of the money that will ever be made on this game has already been made and people involved with it's creation don't think it's financially worth it to fix a problem a small yet existing group of gamers are having. For the record, I liked the game quit a bit before it stopped working. Bugs aside 2K made a nice game that wasn't perfect but could be fun, and I had a nice time with it.

WWE 2K25 is already available to pre-order so I reckon they've moved all their resources into that. Looks very similar to 2K24 so likely using the same engine with the same bugs, meaning I cannot justify buying 2K25 when it's actually released.
I must say i got my game to work. The problem was that some Background app was giving me problems. After talking to the support (wich was really nice and helpfull) we managed to clean boot my PC to test it out and yeah, the game worked. My problem was that once i start the game, it will give me a black-white screen then crash to desktop. Apparently some app was deleting a cluster of memory.

Here you got the answer from them, so if you got the same problem as me this might fix your game:

2K Support:

I found the error 0xc0000005 which was generated after the crash of WWE 2K25. This error generally means that the game is trying to access a cluster of memory that is currently being deleted by another software hence it cannot run properly. So, in order to troubleshoot this, we will try to first clean boot and then try to run the game. Please follow the steps below:

1) Click on the Start button and in the search field type "msconfig"

2) In the list of results you will see "msconfig", right-click and select "Run as Administrator"
3) In your resulting "System Configuration" window, click on the "General" tab

4) Choose "Selective Startup" and uncheck "Load startup items"

5) Click on the "Services" tab.

6) Click on the checkbox next to "Hide all Microsoft services." This will remove all of the Microsoft services from the Services list and keep them from becoming disabled.

7) Click on the "Disable all" button.

8) Click "OK."
9) Reboot PC

In case this does not work, please try to reinstall the DirectX and VCredist,

after these steps if the game is working and we want to pinpoint the Troublemaker app:

Now it may be difficult to pinpoint which application is eating away the memory on the background. So, in this case, we can run the system file checker to look for the corrupted files in your system and repair them. To run System File Checker (SFC), follow these steps:

In the search box on the taskbar, type command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt, then select Run as administrator > Yes.

At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and the /). Scanning will take a few minutes.
If SFC finds corrupted files and replaces them, restart your PC and check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps some people to get the game running again! <3
I'm glad you got it working. Both my WWE 2K23 and WWE 2K24 have the same issue of crashing after I click the play button. I want to say one more of the games between 2K20 and now also have the exact same issues. So 3 of the last 4 WWE games I've bought have all had this problem at some point. For some reason I get to about 150 hours in these games before the game brick and just quit working for good. I just kinda accept it at this point and play other games. Every year I hope the problem has been fixed in the new version of the 2K game, and I find out around that 150 hour mark that the problem continues. I don't know how to predict it, what will cause it, or when it will happen. I just know that each year I try to increasingly limit what I do in the game. I only have so much data on my internet plan, so once the games stop playing, after trying to fix them for a couple days I just uninstall them. Then because of my limited data, once a month or once every other other month I reinstall the game and see if its been fixed. I can't uninstall/reinstall the game really more than once a month because of the GB. I've just come to accept that if I don't download many community creations and mostly play exhibition matches, I can get the yearly WWE 2K game to possibly work for 150 hours. A monthly tradition now of installing the game and still not having it launch, then spending hours doing whatever fixes people have come up with that month, then uninstalling it and waiting to do the same dance the following month. It's Feb 2025 now and I've done that dance this year since Nov 13thish of 2024. It's a dance I've done in previous years with two other games that I never got working. I've also come to accept that each year my game cloud data will get wiped or corrupted 2-3 times, and I'll have to play Showcase mode multiple times to unlock the same stuff again and again. On the 3rd time each year I just accept the Showcase stuff wont be in my game, because the mode is not that fun, and even less fun when you play it multiple times. I wish these issues would be fixed, but after dealing with the same issues on multiple games, on multiple devices (my PC and Steam Deck) every single year I've bought the WWE 24 game since 2020, I've just come to accept it. Might the new fixes above work for me, maybe. I've tried some of them previously with no luck. Getting the game working at this point, having to set the sliders and options again, unlock things in Showcase again, finding and downloading the community creations stuff again and so on just doesn't seem worth it. The one thing I wish is that 2K would refund me for the WCW DLC pack I bought the day my game broke. I've tried 3 times now and its not going to happen. These are fun games but they are broken, and I feel like year to year they don't fix the game code, and instead just pile new things onto it. They add new match types before fixing bugs. These issues I've had the past 4 or 5 years with these games are common issues. Both on this forum, on Reddit, and on YouTube where you can find many people having these same issues. Being able to buy one of these games and just play it forever would be ideal, but I'd settle for a game that worked for me for 250 hours and then bricked. The extra 100 hours or possible playtime would be nice. Fingers crossed as always for the next version or for a patch to this and previous versions.

This worked for me thank you so much. Legend.

At first this worked, it got past the white screen to the paragraph of text. However, then the game froze and crashed. My money is on it being a 2k bug that won't be fixed due to early access for 2k25 coming next Friday.
This might be snake oil but I read that the "chrash pad" folder in the installed files location could be a cause but this is not confirmed; however, I did delete this folder just cause, it is not a particularly good solution; although, some people are reporting that updating the Chipset Drivers, especially for Win11, might be a better solution (I also run the game in Admin mode).
