I'm gonna say yes. I haven't played since HcTP (and haven't followed wrestling since) and came back for 2k19 (because of Peacemaker, also ironically one of the best in the series). Going from HctP to 2k19, I played for months because I was astonished how far we've come (even though I didn't know who 75% of the wresters were lmao)
I HATED 2k22 and the direction they took the gameplay from 2k19, but something about 2k23 really reeled me in. 2k24 is just 2k23+. If you follow 2k games and take into consideration their development habits, I'd say 2k24 is worth it.
Now, with 2k24 at least for me the game is no fun to play I hate pretty much everything about the current controls. But it is amazing fun to watch as a spectacle. Because the character models have become so realistic, the way certain wrestlers had their distinctive way of moving copied into the game, the improvements to AI so you don't see the same behavior and moves over and over again and instead never know what's gonna happen. It's really good.
tl;dr Older games were the better videogames, while this (and last year) are the better fan product.
Man I miss that game
Remember that I never touched WWE 2K23, so the points I'm writing below are about changes I feel compared to WWE 2K22:
1. The game became much slower and more simulation-oriented compared to WWE 2K22, more like a higher degree of simulation than arcade, and it's great if you want a more realistic WWE game.
2. One of the issues I always had with WWE 2K games was that the Legends difficulty wasn't challenging at all. Now in WWE 2K24, I've faced a challenging Legend difficulty for the first time. It's great, but still not enough. This legend is definitely appropriate for "Hard," and developers still need to make the game more challenging for Legend Difficulty.
3. The new match types, such as casket matches and ambulance matches, are good. It's just good to be there, but it's not like you should buy the game for these new match types. They can entertain you for a couple more matches. However, the special guest referee experience is great. What we need is that developers should place these match types in GM Mode, Universe Mode, and MyCareer to give them purpose and not just play them in exhibition matches. Still, we are expecting Inferno, and I quit match types.
4. There are some new features in the gameplay, like exchange punch, which is great. It's not like the WWE 2K15 force-catching minigame in the beginning of the match, which was boring and frustrating. The new finisher and signature system are much better than the WWE 2K15 and WWE 2K20 ones.
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Still missing so many features since THQ games: more weapons, crowd reaction, weapon physics and weapon moves, and modes like Road to Wrestlemania.
2. Backstage hasn't changed a bit since WWE 2K22. We need previous WWE 2K backstage offices to be connected to the garage, plus some new areas like restaurants, etc.
3. It's not specifically related to WWE 2K; sports games shouldn't be released every year anymore.
4. This one is not the 2K fault; it's WWE fault. New rosters are not interesting for people, and I've seen many topics about them. I don't want to insult the WWE rosters, because it's not them who should be blamed. It's about the WWE story writers, who can't make more great characters anymore. I see many people are looking for old WWE rosters to play with, so if you want to play with them, make sure to buy the Deluxe Edition or 40 years of Wreslmania Deluxe Edition because if you buy the Standard Edition, you probably won't know most of the rosters that are playable by default.
Let's be honest, guys: WWE will remain in the PG era forever. The reason is that by remaining in the PG era, they can attract children as well and sell action figures and toys for them. However, this doesn't mean WWE audiences have increased compared to the attitude era. I've read many articles about WWE viewer statistics that mentioned that WWE audiences decreased significantly compared to the attitude era or before that.
