will this be the one?
looks good, love the direction. in past 40 years we have had 2 options. "Hollywood Mogul" and "The Movies" both of which had pros and cons and both have been for the most part no longer supported. Now we have at least a half dozen in production. In order to stand out one is going to be able to offer custom data bases so we can add\edit real people into the game. Hollywood Mogul has had this for at least 20 years, but the game has never progressed past a early 90s GUI. Hopefully this game can improve on those old games and bring us a modern option

To answer the question in the thread title, honestly, no, I don't think it will be the one. It feels like playing Game Dev Tycoon with a movie skin, not an actual Hollywood game. I played through the demo twice and there was no sense of world, it was all dead and empty. I was signing up "Arnold Schwarzenegger" over and over again because he was available 5-star talent for that genre/theme. Compare that to Hollywood Mogul with it's 1000+ actor lists, rated in multiple categories/abilities, ageing as the game world progresses, being used by competing studios as they make their projects, The Executive just feels... utterly shallow in comparison.

Hey, I am trully sorry for missing your feedback a while back.

Our talent database is actually quite large and was built using real box office data from movies released since the 60ies and the way to 2024.
We are using spoofed name but the game will be modded easily. We have updated the Demo 2 weeks ago and have exposed all the json files containing talents and competing movies. We have also revamped the talents stats system to make it more interesting.
The talent availibity system is not there yet for the demo.

That being said, we don't aspire to provide the depth as Hollywood Mogul in term of movie creation options, we want to focus also on the other aspect of makign a movie production successful such as distributions, IP management, Home Entertainment...

My brother, who is making this game with me, has worked in finance, licensing and distribution for several movie studios and production companyies in Hollywood so we understand the ins and out of this industry and we ve chosen to simplify the different aspects to the right amount so that is still appealing to a "wide" audience.

Anyway, I see that you are both movie buffs so feel free to join our discord, to discuss more about all of this. I would be great if we could find mechanics that could be appealing to simulation enthusiasts :D

Why do I always get the shivers when developers say they want to appeal to a wide audience? Because usually that translates to "The game will be way too easy".

Note that I have used "wide" with quotation marks :D
At the end of the day, we are still making a tycoon focused on management. But we could have gone more toward the route of very complex simulation or something a bit more simple and we chose the latter.

Yep this game shows a lot of promise. Great UI etc, big talent pools, a lot of depth. Saved a lot of development work no doubt by avoiding the 'movie lot building sim' which really doesn't add that much. My dev wishlist -
- more clarity around those phases in movie production, maybe just one screen showing budget, % allocation to phase, each phase cost. At least explain how the movie budget is being spent better
- i miss the scriptwriting phase and writers talent pool. There's another game i love 'writers' rush'... you guys should get together lol
- hollywood gossip, events, personal tragedies, triumphs - it is a management game but it will be way more immersive if you can factor in all the crazy hollywood stuff that (somewhat randomly) happens to actors and everyone else.
Love the game though, looks great.

Thanks for all these suggestions Catweazie.
I will check Writers'rush :D
Hollywood dramas and events will be part of the full release for sure!
