Can't figure out controls?

I don't know if i am getting old or what, but controls are driving me insane when placing building objects. for example i can't build a ramp and rotate it in place, and the control/rebinding seems to say use left stick which moves the block around, it doesn't rotate the blocks. Yet every now and then the block seems to automatically rotate in some random direction. i tried for like 10 minutes to place a ramp and i couldn't, i couldn't get it to rotate. Anyone care to explain this? Using xbox one controller.

EDIT: Played some more today, still in a game focused a lot on building bases and building vehicles, i am completely baffled by the control scene, i can't seem to edit the controls and it seems to at a certain interval of maybe 10 seconds for a brief second the game uses the left stick to rotate blocks then goes back to moving blocks again. this is the most insane and ridiculous control system i seen literally making the game unplayable with a controller.

I hope i a simply misunderstanding something and someone can point to my mistake, how do i rotate objects properly? How do i rebind controls, when i click a button on my gamepad nothing happens.

i am baffled why when building the d-pad is completely unused, why can't i just use left stick to move object and d-pad to rotate object? Or why can't i hold another button down when using left stick to rotate objects? I tried every combination i can think of.

not everyone can comfortably play with keyboard and mouse, i have hand issue that makes it difficult and painful and this game clearly is controller compatible both on steam store and the fact that all rest of controls work fine. I hope this is a bug that will be fixed soon.
