Chicks are unhappy and move away

I have a chicken coop and I had 3 chicks, they started off fine, but now suddenly they are unhappy and I already lost one, I think the last two don't have much time left. It's autumn in the game.

I can't feed them sunflowers (favorite food) as I can't buy or grow it until spring(?). I have tried seasonal flowers, corn and other crops but the feeding shell doesn't take those (wheat or grass can be fed trough shell).

They have a silo and I have "greeted" them every day. The coop door is open as I don't know how to get them inside and they seem to stay out overnight if I close the door in the evening.

I don't have a barn and I don't want to build it if taking care of the animals takes too much effort in early game.

We believe this is a bug, so you are not doing anything wrong!

We're addressing the issue in one of the next upcoming patches!

my animals keep resetting when they reach max hearts so i build up the hearts again just for them to reset again is that intended game design?

I am having the same issue. I've had my chickens, cows, and sheep reset to 0 hearts and "needs attention" suddenly after being full hearts the day before.

I know I wasn't doing anything wrong, I fed them their favorites every day, and let them out of the barn, etc.

EDIT: It seems like it might be triggered by rain??
