how does it work? I put seeds, they disappear but no bird poop? do I put it over my crops?

You put sunflower seed to get the birdie to come, then you give it any crops and it will give you the seed and maybe poop. But I get more poop from the animals.

I just placed my first ones. Leave a sunflower seed (which you get plenty of those from your chickens), and a bird shows up the next day. While there's a bird perched, giving it a sunflower seed will give you a white poop in return, because of course bird poop is white. Giving it a veggie will give you a seed of that veggie (and maybe another white poop, too, I can't remember). Basically, they're little seed makers, they work pretty fast, and they apparently take sunflower seeds as fuel.

Were you able to refill yours? My birds left (whoops) and now I can't refill the the houses.

I have been, but there are a couple things that could be giving you trouble. I think there's one season a year (summer, maybe), where birds just won't come and you can't put out seed. When you can put out seed, it has to match the current season, and of course the hit box on the feeder is pretty small.

There's always the chance you've run into a bug in the game, too.
