ArtRage 4

ArtRage 4

Serial regristration for Steam users?
I know this was answered in another thread but I can't find it now (:V) but what's the details on Steam users being able to register their product on their store for offline use?

That was a feature I was really hoping for in ArtRage 3 but I guess that feature will be a 4 exclusive now?

Any idea on an ETA when we can expect such a feature?

ArtRage 4 doesn't require Steam to be running, we removed that due to requests from ArtRage 3. Basically, when you run the product the first time on any machine you're asked to enter your CD key, after which time the product launches without requiring Steam to be running.

We're going to make sure this system is working properly in 4 then look at wrapping it back in to a Studio Pro update as well so that everyone can use it.

So people who own the previous version are still able to use it? That's a really nice feature, I'm glad it wasn't left out of the AR3 updates as it was causing some performance issues with some people.

Thanks for being helpful and answering all my questions, by the way, I'm glad to know I can always ask for help and receive an answer.

Definitely, we want to make sure that Studio Pro also includes the functionality as soon as we have made sure it's working well and can implement it in the older code base.

I just bought ArtRage 4 in Steam because of this post. And it is not possible to run ArtRage 4 without Steam. As soon as I start ArtRage Steam launches as well.
This is quite annoying, as I use Steam on a Windows Machine for gaming and don't want to be thrown out out this account every time I use ArtRage on my Mac.

If you're using the Steam created icon it'll launch Steam to run the program. You need to go into your Steam/steamapps/common/ArtRage folder, right-click on the .exe file and create a new shortcut.

That actually helped me too. :P Now I can run it without Steam in the background.

I you don't mind me asking, I tried to register my product on the website but it told me my key was invalid. Is there a reason for that?

I was curious in case I ever wanted to buy a new version of the program (hopefully not for a few more years though :P) and didn't necessarily want to be restricted to Steam for the inevitable discount for already owning it.

We can't currently support registration of Steam keys in our own systems, the Steam version is handled directly via the Steam client.

Does that mean that future discounts for newer versions can only be used through Steam?

That's how it's looking currently, yes. That might change in the future, and if the product ever came off Steam we'd certainly look in to ways of providing the discounts outside, but for now Steam versions are upgraded and updated only via Steam.

Dose doing this make it so that I can run it without an internet conncection? I curretnly have a shortcut for ArtRage 4 but it is an internet shortcut, so if my internet is down I'm out of luck.

Try the .exe file located in your steamapps folder. You can find it in your program files.

Thanks so much! I got it working now! Do you know if this works for other programs/game purchased on Steam (assuming that they don't require an internet connection to run?)

Worked for Scribblenauts but I am not sure about others, you'd have to look in their folders and see if there's a similar file.
