Forgotten Simcity Societies?
I'm not coming out all guns blazing in defense of this game, I purchased citiesXL 2011 and it wasn't without it's problems. But everyone who runs this game into the ground and hypes the new Simcity let me just remind you of EA's last attempt at Simcity. That's right, Simcity societies, hyped just as much as the new Simcity also with lots of glowing paid for reviews and it was terrible. Don't show your ignorant fanboy colours by assuming that EA's next baby isn't just Simcity societies 2 with DRM.

According to the feedback from the beta testers, it's not. Some people like it, some don't like it. I don't like it mainly because of the size of the cities. If the "playground" was bigger, I would love it. Still, it's better what EA/ Maxis do than what Focus do (aka, constat release the very same game with the very same major flaws). No thanks, EA is actually doing something about the game... I'm not buying SC, nor CXL. I will stick with Anno, Tropico 4 and expect Tropico 5, that had been announced recently.

I'm looking forward to testing SC5, but I will give it a good'ol college try before I buy.
As for Anno, and Tropico, those are well polished, working games!

I have clocked over 600 hours in Anno 2070, can anyone here guess why that is?

Schrapple - I do agree with you. EA has a nasty habit of releasing crap too.
However, EA knows the value of not pissing off their customers too much.
Especially with regards to such a well established series as Sim City.

Because it takes forever to balance everything out to move to the next level, and only takes a couple of ms for the opponent to throw a wrench in that ? :P

LOL :-P Mainly because it's a fun game to play, and it still works after endless hours of gaming. Also, being that you are so vounerable in anno, it requires a more defensive/aggressive playing style. I find it realistic, since I have to pick my islands both regarding safety, and resources available. Then I have to build up a hefty naval fleet, and cloak for my transport ships.
Just collect the hell out of cloaks, shields, and the likes during sandbox games, and stuff that in your ark. It should aid your multiplayer games substantially.

NOOO sim city societies wasnt made by EA and it was a different concept from the originals sim city games anyway it was about social enginnering

The new Sim City is essentially a DLC milking machine. I played the last beta and i've gotten into the next beta, and while it has a lot of potential it's to limiting. The cost of the game is rediculassly over priced £64.99 for the complete edition with all the DLC at launch.

Sim City is essentially the next Sims, we get a launch title, then over the course of a year or 2 we'll get dozens of DLC which will end up costing over £100 to buy. That alone makes me not want to buy it, tied with what i#ve seen in the beta so far, i'm not impressed. Sure it looks nice, but that's all it has

Simcity societies wasn't made by EA?

"SimCity Societies is a city-building simulation computer game developed by Tilted Mill Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts (EA)" Better luck next time fanboy.

Simcity Societies was also an EXPERIMENT designed to see if fans would accept a dumbed down version of the series. Fortunately, this experiment clearly FAILED, burned, and crumbled. I believe they learned their lessons from it. Also, it was developed by Rachel Burnstien... and she's natorious for runining good EA franchises and ideas.

EA invest a lot of money in developing games and paying for glowing reviews of said games, because of this they must move large volumes of the games to recoup the outlay. Games specifically aimed at one particular target audience rarely sell in big numbers, to make big sales game must look pretty and be dumb so they appeal to everyone. EA are in such a position that every game they make must sell big and appeal to a large audience, so the chances that the new Simcity will be what the old Simcities were are tiny. I doubt very much it will be a challenging and complex game, to make it so goes against every rule of business.

While i have a number of concerns about the new Simcity, becoming Societies 2 is not one of them. Give some credit to Maxis, all 4 of the SimCity games they developed where pretty damn good, its only Tilted Mill that screwed up with Societies. While this wont be a day one purchase from me due to a number of questionable game design and mechanics decisions, i still have faith Maxis can do something good with the franchise, and if not then i'll just save my money for the next Anno.

I doubt maxis's independence to do something good with the franchise. Just look at BF3 for proof of EA's inference wrecking a franchise.

SC4 is unplayable, and traffic doesn't work. Even with deluxe edition and all current patches.

SC4 is still by far the best city building game today, even 10 year after release. Poster above clearly is very clueless.

I'm sorry m8, you are wrong. I have played Sim City since the original release.
I own all the games, and have put in several hundred hours playing each release.

When I claim traffic in SC4 doesn't work, then it is based on hours upon hours of try and fail.

I don't know your motivation for playing SC, but mine is perfection. I want to build the
perfect city, and I cannot; when cars actively aviod the highways.
Unlike real life, where going a little out of the way to take a highway might be a quicker route, this game functions on the shortest distance principal.

IMHO the last good SC game was SC2000. 3K was ok too, and it let you almost finish

You just have to download one mod (NAM), and all of your issues with SC4 are fixed. http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/26793-network-addon-mod-for-windows-installer/

It dramatically improves SC4 gameplay, and solves all of the traffic issues the original had. This mod is the main reason why so many still play SC4. It's become essential.

I heard that the original reason traffic was so strange in the original SC4, is because it was too resource hogging to make a properly complex traffic system. As a result, the original system was purposely kept overly simplistic. Since computers these days can handle things fine, that is no longer a problem. Unfortuntely SC4 is no longer being developed, so community made patches are the only thing left. And NAM is amazing. Once you install it, you'll wonder how you even played without it.
