WoW-likes are just so easily sold to the average consumer base now, and all those fans who played and loved WoW are easily pulled into the farmiliarity being emulated in a new format.
They're also easy to pick up, and pull in revenue. Ragnarok Online 2 had been built up and completely scrapped several times over before it came to this point/product, this seemed like their way of getting back into the market easily for the time being, but hopefully they can develop some of that originality over the next few years. I can't say if I'm willing to commit that to such a generic game but for now its a welcome distraction.
It is quite sad, even SquareEnix took their more classic combat style and mmo system away after converting to Final Fantasy 14 1.0 - and even more so in 2.0 ARR they completely caved and copied the WoW-like format for ease of access.
WASD, Tab, Shift, Spacebar are the go-to controls on a PC game, and the MMO format of adding 1-10 is sadly, very likely, here to stay..
Yeah it accuses me of using "Undefined hacks" ??? on a fresh install of windows 7 with all aux services closed (tested it on other comp). So idk what the developers were thinking.
I was waiting the opportunity to play this game since it was annouced, but now that i have played for 4 hours... dunno dud, i just feel like i need to get bat to Ragnarok 1....
Its so nice to walk through towns with familiar names and fight all the same mobs that we of old grew oh so accustomed to. Why do the damn treees have to block my view, have they not heard of tranparent foreground.
Some of the new skills I like, in default; as always, I built a Thief>Sin first, the combo system is a nice idea, but the execution is one dimensional. This whole concept of bound items galore is horrible, i open pandora boxes, and get sweet gear for my future Monk and I cant trade it out, ♥♥♥, BIG time!
I will continue to play and hope that the future heralds more of the familiar, more successful past.
IMO: WoW was always crap and I totally preferred RO1 and have still found myself back on the old server; or a high rate private, just for the nostalgia.
You think that you can got those items from the aution house or other players with the game money? The answer is NO, or at least is difficult for you to do that. You have no way to get the zeny from RO2 other then the quests, and you still have to use the zeny for the potions/job learning/food ...etc For the high level players maybe there's another way to find more zeny, but the costume's special +abilities for them is just "nice to have" as they already got truck load of status. For the purple pandora weapons? No sorry you have no way to get them unless you're willing to spend 1xx zeny to buy a pandora key and try your luck... several players told me (I have tried myself too) it's hard to get the class weapons even we're willing to buy the keys from the online store as you can still get tons of junk items > normal weapons > accessaries > green weapons > blue weapons > purple weapons > purple weapon suit for your job class.
The storeline? Frankly I have read some and I have skipped some from the NPC dialogue, all I can comment is it's not as good as some of the other MMO... some quest NPC will simply give you a simple instruction like "I want to get xxxx", "I need xxxx" and thats it! Some even ask you to pick up something that is just next to them! It's totally non sense!
The gameplay? All I can say is.. "PLEASE FIX THE BUGS FIRST!" It's frustrating when you're trying to click on a button of a dialog box, but it simply close suddenly and your character run to somewhere just like a mad guy and it's happening because there is something clickable behind (or even it's not behind) the dialog box! It's hard for you to click on a specified object / npc / mailbox..etc while you're in a place with many people or monsters. When your teammates attacking by several monsters and when you're trying to help them... ok the assist attack key always failed to work? Okay you try to use your mouse to click on them but you have to bet your luck that you can select the right one, if you select something wrong you have to tab tab tab and since the game queued up your keypress request... there's a low chance that you landed your 1st hit to your target while you're wondering why your 2nd hit is landed on another unwanted monster just because the system try to help you to finish your last "tab" after your 1st hit...
Hope that RO2 can get some improvements in the future... Anyway I have no more comments on this game as I have stopped to play already and I just pre-ordered the FF14 online with my friends as it will be released within this month. I have downloaded and tried the benchmark character creation and the beta version from youtube seems good enough to me and it is for a monthly fee only... NO gambling boxes NO real money abilities and NO real money power up! : )
