The Power of a Healer
This is my first mmo where my main is a healer. Needless to say, its a really difference experience. Its nice being able to help others complete objectives, or giving people a second chance at a fight by reviving them. As nice as the party play is however.. I do have one rather big issue.

I cant solo for ♥♥♥♥.

I dont expect healers to be able to do massive ammounts of damage against enemies, but I want to be able to actually kill an enemy in a few hits rather then 5mins per enemy. Its sad when you spend a good while trying to take down a target, and then see a Mage waltz by and hit him once, MAYBE twice and the monster is dead. Again I dont expect to be a power house but even though its an mmo there are times where I will have to solo or rely on my own strength.

Perhaps its my skill build, or maybe its my stats. I dont see how this would matter THAT much however, considering im level 10 (and my god those were the longest 10 levels of my life e- e).

Any feedback from healers or ex-healers/Priests/Monks would be great. I'd like to know now before I get any deeper into being a healer.

Been playing MMO's for a long time now (WoW topping off at 7 years before I retired- healer, of course).

I would say keep aiming for the long-term raid abilities. I.E.- Keep putting those points into your healing talents. I'm level 15 on my fourth acolyte created toon, deleting the previous as I got higher in the levels and experimented with the stats and skills.

So far, I've found the best approach at this low of level progression has been putting all my stats into Agility, with gear/card emphasis on Int/Agi and Vit. The former two having higher priority. I didn't even put skill points into Holy Light until level 10, when I had maxed out my Heal/Reno and 1 point into the middle branch until I got to Aqua. Now, I'm maxing out Holy Light to 5 and going back into strict healing talents.

It's been a bit of a 'wear-them-down' but nothing at all into the extreme of being hard. My goal is for the long-term raiding benefit without actually spending money to reset my talents. Keeping my gameplay free. Heh.

As far as your question goes, to sum: 5/5 Holy Light should be your only attack as far as I can see right now.... With the stat pump into your Crit rating, it should make things go a ton smoother.

I am currently an Acolyte. I plan to go full DPS for leveling. Choose Priest. Max Level as DPS and then pay $6 for skill reset and $6 for stat reset. That is if the game can survive past me hitting 50.

I have no problems what so ever. You spam 1 until things die. You can heal yourself just incase. For a mob with over 1k hp at levels 1-15 I just use potions while I am fighting it every 10 seconds use one.

It isnt hard.

If you cant survive you should probably switch classes as this game isnt nearly as hard as others...
Nakht May 5, 2013 @ 5:27pm
I never said it was "hard". My point was that it was rediculously time consuming compared to other classes. I expected a somewhat slower mob killing pace but wasnt ready for this. Again keep in my this is my first healing class in an mmo, I have no experience outside of what im doing right now.

Surviving is never an issue either. I think NGfrodo's "wear them down" saying best fits what its been like.
I'd like to go Full Support, and i dont mind spending a little money on a game I like in order to respec :>
Thanks for the advice. I'll charge through it.

Well at least healers aren't OP in this like they were in Swtor. They could solo everything that wasn't a raid and could also win any 1v1 PvP.
Nakht May 5, 2013 @ 5:34pm
I cant say i've experience that ever (never played swtor) but that does sound rather crappy.

I play one too and I feel the same I heal everyone while fighting myself on my own quests, I get thank you's allot, I can't die and I dont have any attack skills other than the basic one from the start but not advanced in it, the trick is to use Aspercio to get 3 criticals with holy light wich mostly kill the enemies or gets them to 1/3 life at least if not a boss.

Hit me up, healer name is Qionah if you have more questions
Sinsear May 5, 2013 @ 5:44pm
eh? aco was stupid easy to lvl from 1-25. All you really need to do in begging is pump Int and get asperio, renavatio (its a regen heal over time and heals better than your normal heal in a battle situation if you dont use asperio to double your heal in which case if your soloing.... you shouldnt be doing).
Also even if judex is low dmg you can use asperio to charge judex to do a aoe stun, combine that with your heal over time, damage over time and holy lights and you can take of mini bosses that summon adds easily.

oratio is the dmg over time

IMO get holy light then asperio then judex then renovatio then go back to maxing holy light.

so basically you can use aqua for holy waters to use asperio before battle (if you want a better dmg on first couple of hits you could use asperio then wait a few seconds before attacking so that when you recast asperio it will be on less of a cooldown)

I think dedicated support or tank classes are purely an error in design. If you like 50% of players not being able to form a group, than its a good idea.

Yeah that's why I went monk as soon as I hit 25 on th SEA servers. Seriously, though, get Asperio early on, it helps a lot. Priests will be integral if the iRO2 servers get the sorceror healing nerf.
Sinsear May 5, 2013 @ 6:03pm
Yeah i saw teh sorcs heals... kinda ridiculous considering. On another note.... its sucks that monks keep absolutely nothing from acolyte tree, but then again tank with heals with be a little much.

Playing a healer in this game isn't that bad. I'm only lv 16 atm but I'm going full support priest. With only 1 point into Holy light I still feel like I'm able to burn mobs down when i solo. A pure dps class will kill things faster then me, maybe 2 or 3 casts before i kill my mob, but I'm able to chain pull mobs non stop.
It's just a matter of picking the right cards/title to boost your stats mainly int and agi (you'll get enough wis from your gear). Stack the right stats along with getting asperio to lv3 for the 20s cd and you'll see a increase in your kill time.
Nakht May 5, 2013 @ 6:06pm
So I got asperio.. holy hell. I feel like I can actually fight now, thanks for the advice.

I just have to figure out what cards to use and what title to wear..

The issue you run into any MMO is balalance between classes for healing and dps. Its hard if you get to much healing you never die in pvp if you do to little damage you are hardly played. In the end your still based on Intell for damage and only up to 40% so pump it up it goes by faster. If you havent played Ragnark online 1 you know they tend to like grinds a bit. Dont think putting points everywhere is good either 1 or 2 stats is all you want 3 is iffy with what you lose and gain on class. Also yes your a healer find a friend to level with start asking ppl around a dps class that you heal get credit for kills and split loot is way faster for both. And upgrade you gear every chance you get with money it helps for stats and killing it pays off in the end. You will always get invites as a decent healer.

Hello, I am an Acolyte lvl 12 and so far I enjoy the solo suffering.
Having only holy light makes killing monsters a little bit long, but the sustainability is perfect. I can go on casting holy light with aspersio and aqua benedicta while keeping renovatio on myself virtually forever, with a lot of overhealing done.
I do however understand that it's much easier for classes with higher attack to just stock on potions and do the same, then it is for me to increase damage, so I see where you are going with that.
SecondLeaseGamer May 5, 2013 @ 6:12pm
Is there any undead zones? In the original aco's and the like would hit up those zones way before they were supposed to and dominated that ♥♥♥♥.
