Quake "Ultimate patch" for the Steam version
Back in the old Steam forums the user MenaceInc released patches for the Steam versions of Quake and Quake 2 that made the soundtracks available again, and most importantly changed the executables from the old and poorly supported retail WinQuake/GLQuake files to modern source ports, that makes the games work much better with modern hardware and OSes and with improved multiplayer code. You can still find the thread with all the download links at: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1756923

Just keep in mind that everytime you use "Verify file integrity", you'll have to reinstall the patches, as Steam replaces the patched files with the originals again.

It's nice to be able to play Quake as I remember it back in Middle School (I'm 31 now). I can remember screwing off in homeroom, playing Quake and Duke Nukem 3D on the PowerPC Macintosh they had in the classroom. I'm jjust amazed at how smoothly it runs on a Windows 10 machine, and it plays beautifully at 1680x1050. It's like I'm a kid again! I would 100% recommend the Ultimate Quake Patch to anyone who ever played Quake for the first time during the '90s, and even for those just now playing it for the first time. It's one of the very few FPS games tthat have aged gracefully over the past twenty years. Thank you to Id for making such an amazing game that's still fun to play to this day, and thank you to MenaceInc for making this true to memory patch that makes me feel like I'm playing it for the first time, all over again!

Sadly this fan made so called patch is beyond outdated. And people even today still tries to recommend this to everyone. It would be wise to stop and actually link users the actual up to day version of Darkplaces. So then you and everyone can enjoy a better up to day experience with Darkplaces, if I remember correctly many issues that are within this version of Darkplaces is repaired in the updated ones.

Just like the last few posts I've made about these horribly out of date patches, you should go to LordHavoc DarkPlaces website and update to the latest stable release.

Just patch with "UQP" and download/install newest version of DarkPlaces over it.

I agree, this patch is excellent, has all the music and can play upto 4k with the original gfx ( sorry i prefer the old skool look over the mods )

Nope, but Mediafire tends to show like 10 different download links, only one of which actually leads to the download, the rest being ads, so I could see that happening. It's also been around 5 years since I last downloaded the patch, so I can't vouch for the links in that thread still working.
