Using QuakeSpasm through Steam
Hey! I can't seem to get Quake vanilla running on my Win7 desktop. I tried the DEP settings, compatability mode, and some other stuff. I decided to try QuakeSpasm, and it worked perfectly! Except, I can't get it running through Steam - I have to manually browse to my SteamApps/common/Quake/ directory and run it from there.

Is there any way to fix this so I can run it though steam?

Yes it is possible. Go into your Steam Quake folder. You should notice some programs called. winquake, and glquake. Now grab your Quakespasm.exe file, and move it directly into your Quake folder. Now rename your quakespasm program into winquake or glquake. Once you did, save over your old one and you are finish. Now on steam, go lauch the game and choose either winquake or glquake. (What ever you named your file into) And then load it up. If done correctly, you should see QuakeSpasm loading up instead of winquake or glquake. Enjoy.

Does this work with other source ports such as Mark V?

It's easier to just pull the id1 folder out of the steam installation and drop it into whatever sourceport folder you're using.

If you've got the expansions or other map packs, you either set up a custom path shortcut, use a .bat file to launch (usually provided) or a simple launcher frontend.

I personally haven't tried it with Mark V but it I have done it with Quakespasm, Quakespasm Spiked, Pro Quake and ezQuake. So I guess it should be possible. All steam is looking for is the .exe name.
