QuakeGuy is called Ranger.
I know. Just I prefer ''QuakeGuy'', and your comment is useless.
It's useful enough, also just play WinQuake unpatched with mouselook disabled.
DOSQuake
WinQuake
GLQuake
^^^^^^^^ I made up DOSQuake but it helps keep away the confusion.
Anyway let's carry on. The big difference between them all are quite big. The original one (DOS release) works from DOS straight to Windows 2000. Tried it on Windows XP and it does not run without DOSbox surprisingly. DOSQuake version is the complete standard original Quake. WinQuake (Windows 95 release) and GLQuake (OpenGL Release) on the other hand though has had a quite a lot of touch up's and what not. Looks quite better and performs better but at the same time missing features that the DOS version had. DOS allowed other options to play over online unlike WinQuake and GLQuake did. The options that are missing in WinQuake and GLQuake is "Modem" and "Direct Connect" These two options we're removed for unknown reasons and they could perfectly work fine in WinQuake and GLQuake. Another missing feature that only WinQuake is missing is the ability of having more resolution options like DOSQuake and GLQuake. The resolutions on DOSQuake can reach up to 1280X1024. While WinQuake can only reach up to 1024X768. It's unsure as to why WinQuake can't go any higher but that where GLQuake comes into play. GLQuake can reach up to 1920X1080 which is quite outstanding for such an old engine. Heck it might even be possible to raise it well above that limit. But I don't own any monitors or televisions that go above that resolution. Another missing feature that missing in both WinQuake and GLQuake is the fact if you edit the volume slider in both engines. They don't slide, they more like instantly drop down from 100% straight down to 0%. Unlike DOSQuake where it will slide down though. Now for GLQuake advantage though is the ability to roll you're mouse wheel and choose you're weapons from a impulse command. While DOSQuake and WinQuake do not have the option to do that. GLQuake also looks better then the other engines and can even allow transparent water unlike WinQuake and DOSQuake.
The difference are huge though, and I don't think I can possibly add nearly close to all of them within the list. If you feel like the need to test out and check out other differences between the three. You can download the default DOSQuake that I created a while back for another user. It performs perfectly and has zero delay in sound due to the fixup's I added to it. All you simply need to do is add you're PAK1.PAK from your Steam Quake ID1 folder into the DOSQuake ID1 folder. Then click on QUAKE.BAT and it will load the entire game and run flawless from startup. I added a mouse command to allow your mouse to move freely though. And along a crosshair command as well. if you wish to remove the command, you can do so by deleting Autoexec.cfg from the ID1 folder.

Enjoy.
As a fair warning, I might of been wrong on some of things I've mention though out the list. If needed, do correct me if I am wrong. Thank you.
Now for the missing gun. There a command that lets you edit the visability of the gun. Here the command,
"r_drawviewmodel 1" without quote should allow your gun to show up on the screen again.
As for the mouse, you need to enter a command to allow your mouse to freely aim. This will stop you from moving around while you walk with the mouse. And allow you to aim at the enemies you see though out the game with ease. Here the command.
"+MLOOK" without quote will allow you to aim freely. And to help with the aim as well, you can add a simple crosshair.
"crosshair 1" without quote again. This will set a gray crosshair in the center of the screen. (Or close to the center due to the way the game is design)
The commands I mention should also work in Quake 2 as well. If not, you can learn more of the command lines within these two sites.
Quake 1 command line list : http://quake.wikia.com/wiki/Cheats_and_Console_Commands
Quake 2 command line list : http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~portnoi/quake/quakeiicom.html (Could not find a command line list on the Quake Wiki so this will have to do)
Hope this helps you out and enjoy fragging!
I've already beaten Quake a few times, with Darkplaces in 1920x1200 but with all the other graphics to the minimum, to have full mouselook and modern controls (WASD + Y and X mouse look) while keeping the graphics as true as possible.
Now I've find out what WinQuake is, and it seems to be cool.
What I'm asking is that the mouse doesn't control both the character movements and the aim movements, only the aim. Also if I can look only right and left is perfect. I just want to play the 100% Original game as many did years ago (I bet that WinQuake was used a lot back in the days), but with mouselook.
The problem is: I've tried both -MLOOK and +MLOOK, but it seems it didn't solved.
Now... I don't exactly remember why none of them worked as I wish, but if I remember right, the -MLOOK moved the aim to only left and right but also moved Quakeguy, while +MLOOK oddly gave me chance to watch up and down, without player's movement, but nothing else, I couldn't watch left and right.
Any solution?
Maybe I did something wrong...?
It worked.
Thank you both a lot.
M8,thank you so much for that, i wondered why +mlook didnt work but u said to turn of lookstrafe <3. btw is there a way to prevent the thing where i move "ranger" with my mouse?
Those other quakes starts to add fluff/special effects and so on where its not really original anymore.
It's making the game lightning better, your ruining the original by doing so, its suppose to dark, hellish, gothic, and gloomy, and the Quake vibe.
Also, I haven't played on the servers in a minute but awhile ago when I played, the grappling was sluggish, different, the grappling they provide on these matchmaking servers and so on, is different feeling. Thats not the original mainstream grappling hook, as in smooth, fast, very nice to use, high skill floor with it and so on.
