Quake
Films made about gaming query
I'm curious about opinions from you guys of the best film you've seen, that's based on a video or internet game, or facsimile. I'm not aware of any Quake based film at this point, but we do have films like "Donkey Kong, a fistful of quarters," and "Doom." Some were / are so bad, that even game enthusiasts would give them 1 star, (that collapsed into a black hole.)

Anyway, I stumbled across one that is obscure, that I definitely recommend for true gamers. It's called "Avalon," and was made in 2001 by Mamoru Oshii, and released in 2003. Do not confuse this with the film Avalon, released in 1990. This film is a good movie, even for non-gamers. Watching, leads to an ethereal feeling similar to The Matrix, but also has FPS and role playing characteristics as well.

One thing that's tricky, is that it was originally made in Poland, with Polish as the primary language. I'm fortunate enough to have the DVD, dubbed in English. It is available to watch on youtube, but I'm not sure if you would have to tolerate subtitles or not. It's a good story, but not the easiest to follow, and you may have to watch it twice, to appreciate. So this is my vote for the best film in this video / internet game category.

Well, it probably helps that Avalon's director is the same guy who directed Ghost in the Shell. The original, not the godawful live action thing.

it's not what you're talking about, there's the Seal Of Nehahra machinma made in Quake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5ecvQAzsNk
i rate it a 0/10 but the "unofficial" mission pack Nehahra that follows this 4 hour long machinma (yes, really) is absolute necessary Quaketime.

I have the 2017 release of Ghost in the Shell, which didn't get near the rating points as the 1995 release you mention. I'll definitely check this older version out. Thanks for the tip.

The live action one is... an abomination that should never have been made.

The original Ghost in the Shell and the followup series Stand Alone Complex are classics.

I enjoyed Ghost in the Shell, and for those who don't know, they released Ghost #2 in 2004. At the moment, you can watch #2 for free on youtube. I'd say it's just as good as #1, for the most part.

The 1995 movie and the live action with scarlett johansson are both great. What on earth are you talking about nuclearballs?

That's what nuclear does instead of just using the quote button. For... some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason.

I'm the one who said the live action one sucks. Because it does. It's absolutely horrid.

I saw the 2017 version with Scarlett, first. Because she's in it, I gave it a 5 out of 10. These other 2, 1995 and 2004, are both a lot better. I'm not an anime fan, so for me it took some adjusting. You can see the improved graphics difference in the 2004 version, simply because the technology is better. The 1995 one was made when most of us had a 486, and the Pentium 1 had just come out. The video rendering back then must have taken forever and a day.
