  • Quick save
  • Some weapons are better against certain enemies, some weapons are worse against em
  • The expansion campaigns aren't as balanced as the main game
  • You must start the campaign from the New Game menu in order to be eligible for achievements, not Level Select
  • Different types of armor provide different amounts of damage absorption
  • You always want to have some armor on
  • You will die

ruins the game, no. only save at the start of each level, exclusively otherwise don't play. quicksaving all day long is like continuously asking the girl you're about to bang for consent literally once each minute. it might work but what you're left with at the end is not the positive experience you'd have if you hadn't simped / savescummed along.

Oh wow, people still complain when you dare to use a basic feature in the game huh.
Don't listen to him OP and just save whenever you want to. Afterall it's quite easy to make a costly mistake, better be safe than sorry! :slimetabby:

Some general tips for nightmare. All of this is probably obvious, don't mean to be patronising, kinna hard for me to give any specific advice as have been playing this game for 25 years now and for me it's all kinna just instinct, like I don't even think about it I just do it. BUT... if there is a specific part of the game that you are stuck on and need help THEN I could probably be like "oh, on e2m2 coming up to the shambler you should do this..." Feel free to ask if there is something specific you are stuck on, always happy to help a fellow Quaker.

-Take your time, clear one area at a time (don't just charge through the level and agro every monster, especially on maps where you have to do some back tracking.)
-Use door ways and corridors to your advantage.
-Monsters can hurt each other so get your circle strafe game down.
-Learn the lay out of the maps (on a lower difficulty if necessary).
-When possible save nails and LG cells for shamblers. (Shamblers have 50% damage reduction vs explosive weapons. So basically a direct rocket to a shambler only does marginally more damage than a point blank double barrel shotgun shot.)
-KILL SPAWNS ON SIGHT, DON'T LET THE F*****S START BOUNCING AROUND!! lol
-The base shotgun has a quite tight spread, good for picking off enemies from long-ish range.
-If you can, save power ups for tough sections of maps.
-Save often, ignore the guy above who complains that saving ruins the game. It's your game, you paid for it, enjoy it how you like.
-Also, if I wasn't clear... ♥♥♥♥ SPAWNS!! KILL ON SIGHT!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SANDY WHY ALL THE SPAWNS?!?!?!

My grandma could beat the game if she saved as much as you. :postaldude:

Quick save every step you take, if get damaged, reload; if you waste too much ammo, reload.

lollllllll at responses
Nightmare is not as hard as you think until you get to Dimension of the Past.
Worst parts of Quake on Nightmare are:
Episode 4, you need to hog all the power ups you can get in the final levels, spawns are a motherfug.
Scourge of Armagon, getting killed out of nowhere by a flying testicle and this happens a lot.
Disolution of Eternity, the final boss.
Dimension of the past, rounding up enemies to kill with splash damage because this expansion is very very stingy with ammo.

That said, I am half way through Dimension of the Past, the first secret level barely gives you any ammo. I have All Kill and All Secrets in most levels. I missed about two secrets and maybe 5 enemies tops between Scourge of Armagon and Disolution of Eternity.

Scourge of Armagon level design and OST kick ass.
DoE gives you a weird OP Arsenal.
DotP is vanilla Quake but Hard thus far.
nightmare is pretty easy, though hardest levels for me are usually the idbase levels with the super shotgun being found way later in the level, episode 3, and 4, have a ton of hitscan grunts which just whittle away at your health if you aren't managing your health and ammo right. upon ignoring the good man's advice of taking it slow i have beaten nightmare, episode 4 is pretty easy but can be pretty tense at times, abusing infighting is really useful in these levels, i specifically ignore most spawn encounters because they can be pretty useful for infighting, same with the hell knights, overall i'd say there are times you can take it slow on nightmare and times where you just gotta hightail it, as for quicksaving its pretty eh and encourages savescumming but its useful for grenade jumping when you're inexperienced with the fuse time, there are quite a few times actually where quicksaves have actually forced me to restart a level because i either fumble a key or save at the worst moment forcing a deathloop, and half the time i just quicksave and never use the damn thing, uh, save your nailgun ammo for bigger stuff, save rocket ammo for certain stuff, uh, do a playthrough on an easier difficulty to learn the game and levels better, uh i don't know what more to say tbh, hell i've probably contributed absolutely nothing
though i will admit episode 3 took the longest for me
