Is there a mod similar to Arcane Dimensions but easier?
I have tried this mod and I would love it but it is too hard for me. Most levels are too long and complex for me, so much that I cannot even enjoy them. This mod is really evocative, atmospheric and fascinating and I would love something like that but it is just too much big, complex and convoluted, so much that it is a pain for me to play it.
From the "action" point of view I completed the vanilla game and I would like something like that, but if I find a mod that I really like and my only problem is "too many enemies" I wouldn't mind using God mode to enjoy it. But there is no "God mode" when navigating the stages itself is too hard and demanding...

You might enjoy some of the Func Map Jam packs. The community over at Func_Msgboard have a couple of mapping events each year usually, based around a set theme. You can find most of them in the maps section at https://www.quaddicted.com/

I empathise with the feeling of fatigue for some fan-maps these days that push the limits of their size so far it actually creates pacing issues, but that's half the appeal of Arcane Dimensions (and the Forgotten Sepulchre in particular).

I don't think so. Arcane dimension appeal imo is in how beautiful and atmospheric it is. Aesthetically it is a true marvel.

I have tried Dimension of the past and I liked it.
Abyss of Pandemonium not so much. It looks less goo imo.

PS: is there something like that fore the engine of Quake 2? It looks so cool but I hate the change of setting. I'm a big fan of Lovecraft aesthetiic / Lovecraft themed things and my biggest dream in this regard would be a Doom 64 "port" in the engine of Quake 2. I hate that Strogg thing they came up with...

I did not even know what Nyaruko is but it looks ugly.
I like Eternal Darkness but sometimes I'm in the mood for more action oriented games.

It might make sense, they like ugly things I suppose.
I'd love if there were more old fashioned, both in case of visuals and the gameplay, continuous episodes for Quake as is the case with Doom. Seems like standards concerning detailing and architecture are so high at this point, that people might actually be anxious about putting effort into something more old fashioned given the reception in might receive compared to the extravaganza that is usually produced by Quake mappers these days.

Anyway I liked this

For GZDoom, there's "Shadows of the Nightmare Realm" by YukiRaven, which won a cacoward a couple of years ago. You still get the "quake" feel (YukiRaven being primarily a quake mapper) but you also get the relative ease of the Doom map layout and, ofc, an automap.

(Also just play Arcane Dimensions on easy and devote that brain space you normally spend murdering all the things to finding the exit instead. It's kinda take-it-or-leave it with big levels, since what allows those levels their beauty is in no small part becuase of their complexity and size. Some of the Quake map remakes in AD are quite small though, you'll know them when you see them)

The point of AD is the excess - the campaign is actually just Crucial Error, Foggy Bogbottom, Obsessive Brick Disorder, Firetop Mountain and the End in that order. In that respect, each of these levels is essentially supposed to be close to the length of an episode. The other maps are essentially just museum maps.

I loved AD and it's one of the top mods the Quake community produced over these almost 25 years, but yes, in the biggest maps sometime's there's just too much paths and doors to remember. It would be awesome to have mod with 'bite-sized' levels, closer to length of original Quake maps, but with the level of polish and graphical detail of AD, that's for sure. For a slightly different take on gameplay but same atmosphere and visuals, I highly recommend Into the Shadows mod, that has a simple stealth mechanic and was very enjoyable but short.

For single player I would recommend Scourge of Armagon (official mission pack #1, there's also second one, but not sure about that one, it's not as pretty), Underdark Overbright, Dimensions of the Past, Beyond Belief, Prodigy Special Edition, and there's just so many to list, like Rubicon, Insomnia, Urth Majik, Zerstorer, etc, etc... check out quaddicted.com and read reviews on maps/mods and ratings. There's a huge amount of content. Just recently a first episode of another mod was released, Dwell1, for example.
