Quake
Any Difficult Mods/Expansions?
I absolutely suck at Quake but I want to get better so I can learn more about the game and get better at mapping. I remember hearing about an expansion that was like the Quake equivalent of The Plutonia Experiment, but I forgot the name of it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Fair chance people were talking about Arcane Dimensions. It's a fairly substantial bit of community work.

I have actually played some of this mod, and yeah it definitely mollywhopped me when I tried it out. I think the one I was thinking about was Ground Zero, which is apparently sufficiently difficult.

Arcane Dimensions isn't as hard as some other mods. Like the Punishment Due included as an add-on is harder. For some reason people use the Copper mod to make hard map packs. Dwell is probably the best one.

If you are looking for content that is a bit harder you could check out
"A Roman Wilderness of Pain". 3 map mini episode with a focus on combat and high monster count. https://www.quaddicted.com/reviews/arwop.html

Smej2 and Spirit World are brutal. I would *not* use them to learn about mapping as I don't agree with their design, but if you're looking for something hard then they'll definitely fit.

Yeah, it is really annoying on nightmare. I got to the 4th level and just stopped because it just got annoying to navigate that level, especially when your health is capped at 50

Basically tries to be modern Doom slaughterwad in Quake with all that entails. Won't lie, I found it unplayable. Also this style of gameplay never caught on among Quake mappers, I don't think anyone else tried to make anything of the sort since. But you might want to try it out at least.
