Quake

Is it possible to install / play the old version?
I don't want to download an entire gigabyte when the game was originally not even a 100. I don't want to deal with logging in, I don't want the new changes they implemented back when remaster came out. Can I install and play the old version that I actually bought? It's not in my library and it's not an option in the beta settings.

It's included in this new version so if you download that amount you can play it.

Yes, it's included with the remastered version. I suppose you can download the whole game and then just delete the remastered folder (I'm pretty both versions of Quake are stored in separate folders).

That's nice to know, thanks. Any tip on what launch settings I should input into the game on steam for it to launch those classic exe files instead of trying to launch remaster and failing?

glquake is launched by selecting quake(original) after clicking play on the library.

You can use launch parameters to set your resolution and such if you don't want to take the time to create an autoexec for them.

Huh, I don't remember that being an option when I played it in 2021. When I tried it would always launch the remaster.

It has been there since the new port was added.

Ever since the remaster came out you had the option to choose the remaster or the original when clicking Play in your Steam library.

Yes, but you should really think about using a fan made sourceport by this point. Like VkQuake, Ironwail, JoeQuake, and QuakeSpasm. They are good ports that will work great on modern Windows.

yes this is true, the new steam updates, now ask you which version of a game you would like to play, unless you tick "always use this option when launching"

glquake.exe can be found in "SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Quake" folder for a manual launch, which does not require steam

I think I used QuakeSpasm before the update, not sure.

You still can.

And you can still launch it via steam. Just put it in the install folder, rename glquake to something else then rename quakespasm to glquake.
