Sega Saturn's Tribute
Being a huge fan of this game since it came out, in 1997 I had not money to afford a pc to play decently this masterpiece. Fortunately, I got my Sega Saturn and it came as a surprise to see that Lobotomy was realeasing a Quake port for Saturn. I was waiting for that port anxiously but when it came out it was a huge flop: low fps, low A.I. lack of lobby game level selection, the redo of levels in a simpler arquitecture, (doors, water, weapons...) but eventually it was the only way I could touch that gem.

Over the years, and after playing thousands of ports, I have realized that despite the fact that Lobotomy could not bring us a 1.1 port, they were able to add something which any of the ports released so far have not achieved: the creepy rgb texturesm, morphing on textures such as demon faces (much better on Saturn than in any other releases) and the dynamic light effects and even rainy drop effects.

At this point and bering in mind that the remaster is based on KEX engine, (originally designed for bringing to life Exhumed/Powerslave) I wonder why we have got N64 port available on this remaster but we can't enjoy the amazing creepy atmosphere gotten on Saturn's version.

We really need this Mod/addon/port to be available on the remaster so that we can have a full experience of what reallty meant Saturn's port: a truly titanic port made reality.

KEX was originally designed for Doom 64 EX, not powerslave.

It's less what most people would think of as an engine and more of a wrapper. In this case, it's wrapped around a modified version of netquake.

Unfortunately, Saturn Quake runs on the powerslave engine if memory serves. Meaning it wouldn't run on this port..

I meant that with this engine, It would be easier to reproduce Saturn textures, light effects and other features which made great that port. Besides, I cannot understand why N64 port has been released and not Saturn's version when this last one it's far more legendary, (I bought both in 1999 and Saturn's version was chunky in fps but really good in texturing and lighting effects ending up with a high-end atmosphere: dirtier, more obscure and unique)

The n64 version still ran on the quake engine.

The saturn version did not.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be neat to have. It'd just be a way bigger project.

It's entirely possible that Kaiser (the lead dev of KEX, and the guy who reverse-engineered Doom 64) is a fan of Quake 64. It does have the same composer who did Doom 64's music.

The Saturn version replaces the four secret maps with its own exclusive ones. Someone converted/redid them for the PC version: https://www.celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=62026
